This is a list of dogs currently available for adoption at Family Dogs New Life Shelter.
We do keep this listing very current, so all dogs listed here are still looking for homes. Because we are a no kill shelter all dogs who come into our care have a safe place to live until they are adopted, so some of our residents have been in our care for months or even years.
New adoptable dogs are posted to the site every Thursday evening, dogs who have been adopted are removed from this page (and moved to the Happy Endings page) at the end of each day.

Basset Hound + Labrador Retriever Mix

I’m trying real hard to use The Force to find myself a new home! Think it will work? I’m a mature lady who’s got a lot of smarts and a loyal, loving, and sometimes goofy personality. I could share my home with other dogs or gentle children who know how to treat me with respect, but like any good Jedi I will protect what I hold dear. So a low traffic home without a lot of visitors is what I need. I am totally crate trained, and I have mastered great housebreaking skills, too. So, what do you think? Wouldn’t it be so cool to say you have your very own little love Jedi?!
6 years old-50lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes microchip & registration, spay, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.

Did you know Archie is short for the Scottish name Archibald and means “true and bold”? Well, I’ll have you know I’m truly adorable and not afraid to be bold—I want you to take me home! Is that bold enough for ya? At 2 years old I am just coming into my own, so I may need a confidence boost now and then. Plenty of training, guidance, and love, too. It doesn’t take much to make me feel uneasy and unsure, so a stable environment is what I need. I guess I’ll just wait around patiently until I find someone who can assist me with this. Maybe you’ll make a great candidate? I am already crate trained, housebroken and have had lots of training- it’s like a Webster’s Dictionary up in here with all the commands I know! What I just can’t seem to learn is how to share my food, so a family with calm & respectful children 12+ will be best. I do get along well with other dogs and wouldn’t mind having a canine buddy, but I have been unable to befriend the kitty cat…hence the reason I am the hunt for a new home. So, what do you think? Do I sound like a candidate for your love?
2 years old-60lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, 1 month pet health insurance, free vet exam, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Rhodesian Ridgeback + Labrador Retriever Mix

Are you looking for a little direction in your life? Maybe something to help navigate this path of loneliness and reach the road of love? I think I may be able to help! You see, I am a wealth of knowledge and insight on all things pertaining to love, loyalty and friendship. I can protect you and our home like nobody’s business and I’ll provide you with the coordinates to all the doggy kisses and youthful energy you could ever ask for, and when it comes to playing with other dogs and sturdy children 12+, you could say I’m on a course bearing straight for fun fun fun! Cats, on the other hand, really throw the whole thing off axis! If love is what you’re looking for, head straight for 45.4574 , -122.604. Just remember: even though I’m 2 ½ years old, already housebroken and crate trained there is still a lot of puppy in me, and I will need your guidance on plenty of things. So, have you reached your destination?
2½ years old-75lbs. My adoption fee is $200 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.

So yeah, I guess you could describe me as a scaredy cat. I am not afraid to admit that I am afraid. That is the first step to recovery, right? Admitting the problem. Hello, my name is Bonnie, and I am a scaredy cat. Wow! That really feels a lot better! I feel like I am really opening up here. I think that is all I really need, someone to open up to. Someone that won’t judge me, someone that will listen, someone that will give me the time to actualize my true potential. Someone to give me the TLC I am craving. I am already crate trained, good with respectful and gentle children 12+, and would love to have a canine friend to keep me company! I might even tolerate a kitty cat if you have one who sticks to themselves. Wow! Just letting all this out I feel like a new dog already! Will you give me the opportunity to become the best dog I can be?
4 years old-32lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes spay, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Labrador Retriever + Pit Bull Terrier Mix

There is no doubt I am the right dog for the job. The job of loving you and giving you that special feeling only dog parents know. You know that feeling? That “you are the center of the universe because my life revolves around your love, training, patience, and consistency” feeling? That feeling of knowing you have a best Buddy. I have heard that a feeling like that makes a person eager to get home at the end of a long day just so they can see their pooch’s face.... But I guess that is for you to experience. I just want to experience what a family with unconditional love feels like. I’ve already got my crate training and housebreaking down, and I am social in most all circles except feline circles—but canine and sturdy human 7+ are BFF material. I do get pretty scared when I am behind a fence though; people peering in at me can make me feel a little threatened. Don’t ya know, it’s downright rude to stare! I may be all grown up but I am still a puppy at heart and have a winding road of training ahead to make me the greatest dog I can be. Greatness doesn’t happen overnight, so it’s a mighty good thing we’ll have many many years together!
5 years old-70lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, 1 month pet health insurance, free vet exam, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Rat Terrier + Basenji Mix
6 years old
I have taken a lot of hard knocks in my short little life. Hit the ground and bounce back up, because the show must go on. I feel I would do my namesake proud. The sacrifice that you endure for what you love makes happiness so much sweeter. I want a family that will love me and appreciate me, and know that through all of life’s twists and turns I will be there for them. I might be a little rough around the edges, but some people find diamonds in the rough. I am already housebroken and my crate training is going well- I really do like to learn new things! I probably won’t learn how to live with cats or chickens, so that lesson might as well go out the window. I think I would get along well with respectful children 12+ that know proper pet etiquette and I love to play and roughhouse with other dogs (but I might not share your lap with them). As I said, the show must go on, so how would you like a starring role in my life?
6 years old-11 lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes microchip, neuter, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample. leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Australian Cattle Dog + Boxer + Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix

You have been good, right? You deserve a little treat, right? How about a sweet little love snack that will pad your heart and not your midsection? I just might know a little lady who wants to be your dessert—me, Cookie! I am a real loving, affectionate and loyal little lady, and once I get to trusting you, my shyness melts away like warm hot fudge! I enjoy hanging out with all the other doggies here; they are really helping to boost my confidence! But I did not enjoy meeting those pesky cats, so a home without them is best. Being that I am a sensitive and gentle lady, I would prefer a home with children 12+ to be sure your little ones know how to treat a little girl like me with patience and respect. Rumor has it I am fully housebroken, and I have even been receiving some crate training lessons here—I think I got a pretty good understanding what it’s all about! If you have a low traffic home and craving for a BFF then come get a taste of this sweet treat, cuz I am fresh out of the love oven and looking to warm things up!
3 years old-42lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes spay, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet3
Carolina Dog + Australian Cattle Dog Mix
7 1/2 years old
He loves me…he loves me not…he loves me…oh, I hope that you will love me! I want to be loved so much I can taste it! I promise I am the most loyal girl in town, and the most protective. There is nothing that I love more than my person, and boy am I a devoted guardian. I just know that there has got to be someone out there who can appreciate this special skill set. Someone without children, who appreciates a homebody and has a very small social circle- a low traffic home where I will be allowed plenty of time to warm up to strangers. I am house trained, crate trained, love to play with other big dogs (but don’t always like to share my ball), can cuddle like nobody’s business, and am very loyal and obedient to those I love. The one thing I can’t seem to do is get along with cats, but who wants to be friends with those snooty butts anyway? They say if you love a flower to let it be, for if you pick it, it will cease to exist. But if you pick this flower then we will exist together forever.
7 1/2 years old-50lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes: spay, microchip, 1 month pet health insurance, reduced-cost training class, free vet exam, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.

Deloris has a pending adoption
Scottish Terrier + Cairn Terrier Mix
7 years old
Deloris here, just a sweet little gal in need of a lap to cuddle in. I’m 17 pounds of pure lovin’! Sure, I can be a little leery of strangers, but once I warm up, I’ll never leave your side. I had a family of my own before and lost them and now I figure that I’ll love my new family so so much! So much in fact that I’ve decided not to let strangers get too close, especially when we are out on walks- see I have this thing called leash reactivity which means that I get really defensive if people or other animals get too close when I am on lead. I’m a loyal, devoted, and protective girl, no doubt, so I might not be willing to share your love with other dogs. I get along great with all the other dogs here in my playgroup, and I did well meeting the cats today, but when I claim your lap, no other critter is getting any of it! I’ll be OK sharing my home with children 8+, just remember I am a fragile lady, so be calm and patient! Am I housebroken? YES! Do I need some work on leash? Sure. But who cares, we can figure those things out together! Don’t worry, I am crate trained already too, plus I am a smart little thing so I pick new stuff real quick! All this talk of our future together has got me real excited to meet you, so hurry on in and ask for Deloris!
7 years old-17lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes spay, microchip & registration, 1 month pet health insurance, free vet exam, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Manchester Terrier + Whippet Mix
7 months old
Who’s lookin’ to sink their teeth into some companionship? Cuz I am on the hunt for love! My puppyness will devour your heart whole, and I’ll win you over with just one bite! Plenty of training, guidance, and commitment will be in store, but I promise the more you put in, the more you get out. I am a shy fella, so plenty of socialization will be needed to help me feel more comfortable and relaxed in new situations. I get stressed pretty easily, so a low-traffic home with children 10+ is more my speed. I do love to play with other sturdy dogs, but no cats for me! My crate training is quite impressive, and I’ve got a great start on housebreaking too. So think it through: if you’ve got the proper habitat and room in it for a family addition, then dip your toes in and hurry in to meet me. Hope to see you later, alliGator!
7 months old-27lbs. My adoption fee is $280 and includes spay/neuter, microchip & registration, 1 month pet health insurance, free vet exam, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Pit Bull Terrier + Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
4 years old
I’m a fella on the hunt—on the hunt for love! I have picked up the trail of some very elusive prey. I have been searching and tracking for some time, but every time I think I have my quarry in my clutches it does the old disappearing trick. I tell you, love can sure be a hard thing to pin down, but I don’t let it discourage me. I know I am finally closing in. I can almost taste the sweet satisfaction of bringing in my big game. I have been perfecting my skills to attain my trophy, so I have scouted with sturdy and respectful children 10+, and we work well together. Truth is, I love nothing more than being with people, but I get anxious in stressful situations. I have been setting up base camp in my crate at night and I am really excelling at this whole crate training thing, and during the day I practice my take-down techniques with the other dogs in my play yard—all in good fun, of course! Cats, however, are not welcome to join my hunting party. I have a really good feeling about bringing down the big one this time! You should be careful—I just might have you in my sights!
4 years old-55lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.
Toy Fox Terrier Mix
11 years old
Hi! I am Jojo! Wake me up before you go-go! Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo. Cuz that’s a no-no! Just kidding, except for the part about my name. You know how Jojos go so well with chicken strips? Well, that’s what I am looking for…the chicken strip that will go perfectly with this Jojo! It’ll have to be a special recipe, since I am a pretty special lil potato. I’m longing for an understanding, loving, and patient person who will help me become the best dog I can possibly be. I have a long road ahead of me, but I will try my best. With consistency and positive reinforcement I will be on my way to learning to trust again in no time. I get along with other dogs very well, I am not a fan of cats though and I will need an adult-only home—grabby hands and the youthful energy of children is just too much for me. I do love to get gentle scratches behind the ear and snuggle in the blankets, and I will stick by your side like glue…just give me a little time to trust you. I also love to play with my toys, I enjoy going for brisk walks around the neighborhood, and my crate training is top-notch! So what do you say? Wanna be my chicken strip?
11 years old-12lbs. My adoption fee is $100 and includes neuter, microchip, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.

Boxer + Australian Shepherd Mix
18 months old
Oh boy, let me tell you, with a name like Joy I have a lot to live up to! Well, no problem! I am a joy, a joy to be around, a joy to love, a reason to be joyous! I adore children 8+ who are big and sturdy enough to keep up with me! I’m a pretty smart gal who is affectionate, exuberant and soooo playful. I really enjoy playing with other BIG dogs (as long as they can handle me and know who is boss!) I also love a good game of fetch, and am great at hunting cats- so a home without them would be best. What I need is someone who is interested in teaching me new things (cuz boy do I want to learn!) – especially when it comes to my leash manners. See I have this thing called leash reactivity which means that I can get pretty defensive and excited if people or other animals get too close when I am out on a walk. I am a super people-focused girl, not the type of lady to leave out in the back yard all the time, I want to be in the house with my family! Did I mention I am getting that hang of crate training thing and I am housebroken too?! I’d say that is already a pretty great start to everything else you’re going to teach me. Let’s start with working with the leash manners, okay? Well hurry up and let’s spread some Joy!
18 months old-50lbs. My adoption fee is $220 and includes spay, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Catahoula Leopard Dog + Plott Hound Mix
2 years old
Gosh, there is so much to love about me. Where should I begin? I am sweet, sensitive, affectionate, and always up for a good time, in good time. I’m very shy at first, but I’m just playing hard to get. I love other dogs, like the occasional cat chase, enjoy the company of respectful children 10+, am already crate trained and housebroken and nothing gets my tail a waggin' like seeing my favorite person’s face. I can play all day, and when the fun is done we can curl up together and cuddle on the couch. Did I mention that I am a total knockout? Just look at me! My name is Keave, a hunka sugar who steals the heart of everyone I meet, and now I am out to steal yours.
2 years old-44lbs. My adoption fee is $200 and includes neuter, microchip, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, reduced-cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.

Someone once asked me to complete the difficult task of describing myself in three words. Well, that’s not difficult, I say:
Then I thought to myself, I can do that in one word.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not the vain, conceited type. I am just a young man that knows my strengths. I do have weaknesses though so a good confidence boost should do wonders for me! That means that I will do best in a home with a patient, active family without young children, let’s say 12 and up. I am smart, easy to handle, and easy to train but would really benefit from a power breed savvy owner. I already know to rest soundly in my crate at night and I am housebroken too. I’ll enjoy going on adventures and exploring the backyard with you, then we return for some cuddling on the couch under a warm blanket. I play very well with other dogs but co-existing with cats just doesn’t fit into my vocabulary. So, there you have it. The name’s Koda, get to know me and see how awesome I can be!
2 years old- 60lbs. Our adoption fee is $220 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
LAVERNE & SHIRLEY
7 years old
11 pounds & 14 pounds
United we stand, divided we fall. If there were truer a motto I couldn’t tell you. My sis and I have had quite a run together. Well loved, well cared for, well bonded. Only problem is, we don’t have a home to call our own any longer… things change, owners pass away and we just have to roll with it. Now as long as we have each other we will be just fine! We are happy to share our home with gentle children 8+ or cats, and of course we get along well with other dogs. We are both crate trained, rumor has it we are housebroken too, and we love to snuggle up together. Sweet, sensitive, and loyal as can be... I can speak for my sister when I say we want to share the love we have for each other with a loving family once again.
7 years old- 11lbs/14lbs. Our adoption fee is $280 and includes spay, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.
Labrador Retriever + German Shepherd Mix
9 years old
I got my rabbit’s foot, my horse shoe…Let’s see, I have my four-leaf clover, and my acorn… The penny I found on the sidewalk, my bamboo, I licked a frog and counted to seven, seven times… All right! I think I am ready! Let’s get me adopted!! What’s that? You think I am an amazing specimen of canine and you don’t think I will need all this stuff? You think my loyal personality, mature demeanor, big brains, and 90 pounds of handsome looks is enough for anyone to scoop me up? (Metaphorically lifting with the legs and a proper back brace) Well, thank you! I was a little worried. I mean, I get along great with the other dogs here and will happily admit I do prefer the ladies, I am crate trained and housebroken, and won’t mind sharing my love with respectful older children 12+ but the luck runs out when it comes to cats! I’m also very food motivated and eager to learn new things, but not always eager to trust new people…especially the doctor! I feel uneasy about being overly handled, so I ask that you take things slow and easy at first. You know something? I just may be all the luck I need to find myself the forever home I’ve been dreaming of!
9 years old-90lbs. My adoption fee is $160 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, 1 month pet health insurance, free vet exam, reduced cost training class, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.

Pug + Boxer Mix
5 years old
My name is Nayla, but my friends call me Nay Nay. If you’re looking for a large breed Pug (okay, that’s a joke. There is no such thing as a large breed Pug, but if there was I’d be it!) that is well versed in companionship then look no further, Nay Nay has something to say! I am crate trained, great with other dogs, and playful with cats. I enjoy squeaky toys, lounging on the couch and bing watching the Bachelor. A family with kids 10+ is right up my alley; I do adore love and affection more than anything in the world, but I’m not so great when it comes to sharing my food bowl, so I need a family where all members are old enough to understand I need a little space at dinnertime. I am well mannered, eager to please, and always greet each day with a wagging tail! So get down here and I’ll show you how I Nay Nay!
5 years old-48lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes microchip & registration, spay, reduced-cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, toy & treat packet, dog food sample.
Std Schnauzer + Scottish Deerhound Mix
4 years old
Why not take Ollie me? Ollie me home, that is! Ok, I admit that was a bit silly…but humor is a good ice-breaker, and I need something to help me feel a bit more at ease in new, stressful situations. I just need someone patient and gentle to help me feel more secure. I do love to play with other dogs, so I wouldn’t mind sharing my home with them. And if you have a cat, make sure they stay away from my food bowl! I have lived with cats before, but we did have to be kept separate cuz he just wouldn’t stay out of my dinner! Truth is, I don’t like to share my food with anyone—try to take it away and I’ll tell you all about how I feel. A family with older children or teens who can understand how to give me my space while eating is just what I need. I may not have learned to share yet, but there are so many other things I know: crate training, housebreaking, basic commands, riding in the car… I excel at it all! I’m super affectionate and I love the heck out of my people. I just need guidance, patience, and a forever home…and the opportunity to love you. Ollie you!
4 years old-60lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.
Black Labrador Retriever + German Shepherd Mix
8 1/2 years old
So I hear you’re looking for a new best friend? Someone who is a real sweet heart…well, I may be just who you’re looking for! I am O-so affectionate and O-so loving. If you’re looking for someone to accompany you on your daily walk, a buddy to tag along on your weekend hikes, or a pal to take to the beach, I’d be more than happy to join since I am O-so loyal and enjoy a good time. How about a friend for your other dog? I am O-so lovable and affectionate, I’ll make a wonderful companion for your other dog or respectful older children 8+, but I am not O-so willing to share my home with cats. Some people say I’m O-so quirky; I had a really rough puppy-hood that left me with a neurological condition called epilepsy which causes me to have seizures when I get too over stimulated. But don’t worry, aside from these occasional manifestations of an intense love obsession with going after my own tail (I’m pretty sure its playing hard to get) you’d never even notice! I’m keeping my crate O-so clean and tidy, such a great start to all the other awesome stuff you can teach me…since I am O-so smart. So how about it… don’t I sound O-so right?
8 1/2 years old-65lbs. My adoption fee is $120 and includes; neuter, microchip & registration, reduced-cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.

Name’s Pan. Some people think it’s short for Panda, cuz I am an endangered species. You know, I’m one of a kind and in danger of overpopulating your heart with love!
Others think it’s short for Marzipan cuz I’m that sweet and sugary treat you’ve been daydreaming about since lunch. I’m a super people-focused dude who loves attention. I soak it up like a sponge cake!
I prefer to think it’s short for Peter Pan, a mischievous young boy who never wants to grow up! At just a year old I am still a bit of a puppy, full of fun and adventure. I’m longing to find my very own Neverland filled with all of the love, guidance, and playtime I deserve. I adore the attention of sturdy children and enjoy playing with other dogs, just so long as they remember that I am the leader of these lost boys. Cats, on the other hand, will be forced to walk the plank! I may be young at heart and in need of some guidance, but I am already crate trained and eager to learn a whole lot more.
So whether you prefer Panda, Marzipan, or Peter come on in and ask for Pan!

Just a timid flower, waiting to take root in a place I can call home. What do you think? Are you willing to take me in and let my heart blossom? In turn I promise to be your devoted companion. I will be pleased to sit by your side, receiving the occasional pat on the head. I will be eager to go for a morning walk or have a fun day playing in the back yard. I ‘ll share my flower bed with other dogs, as long as they respect me of queen of the garden but cats must be weeded out! Calm respectful children 14+, are welcome too but know that my strongest trait is my desire to protect those who I hold dear. I also keep my little flower pot, aka crate, and home free of debris or refuse. It may take me a moment to trust, but if you are patient and seeking a new best friend I will root myself right in your heart!

I know, I know, once you see my adorable face and soft, loving eyes you will be transfixed like a sailor to a siren. But hark, my lovelorn admirer, I am cautious to just hand over my heart. I need a person that will understand me fully: my ambitions, my dreams, my desires. Can you dream a little dream with me? Will you walk with me hand and paw, build me up, give me the life I have so longed for? A life of stability and security. A life of love and understanding. I can be very reluctant at times, I know. But that doesn’t mean my love diminishes. My love for children is solely placed on those of the teens+ category. I have plenty of companionship to offer but I am very uneasy about being handled, especially around my collar. My love for my crate is grand; I feel comfy inside and it brings me much security. My love for other creatures such as dogs and cats is joyful and robust! With time I feel we can foster a love and understanding that not many have the joy to experience. Will you dream with me?

Great Pyrenees + Border Collie Mix
2 years old
Listen carefully...the next 60 seconds could change your life! You may have found the best deal in town. I am Vincenzo, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix dressed in a coat of stunning black and white fur. A sweet, sensitive, intelligent, devoted guardian in the making. There isn’t much I can tell you about my history, since I was found as a stray, but I would benefit from someone who really knows my breed and the guardians we are meant to be. I can say that I have taken to my crate training quickly, but my favorite place to be is outdoors. I do hate cats but get along well with other dogs who respect me as boss, and I would just adore the gentle affection of sturdy, respectful children 8+. Don’t forget, this Vincenzo comes with a lifetime “love and companionship” warranty. If you ever have a bad day, Vinnie here will be there to brighten it. I’ll turn that frown upside down with my undying love and companionship. Yep, I guarantee it! What, you think it sounds too good to be true? Then you better start up that car and hurry on down to Family Dogs to meet me!
