Help us get ready for our big move!

It’s nearly time, we have a lot to get ready for and the excitement is building! We’re making our big move to the new rescue & sanctuary property in June and we are busy preparing for all of these beautiful changes.
The fencing projects have been moving right along, and the facility that will house the dogs’ sleeping quarters will be finished up in the coming months…just in time for the pups to move in and have a spacious, comfortable place to rest their head after long days of running and playing in the great wide open!

There are plenty of supplies we need to get things ready and we can sure use your help. Take a look at our Amazon Wish List and consider sending a gift our way.
We know a lot of these items aren’t very exciting, but you know what it is… a virtual sneak peek at the doggy digs.

Big Changes Are Coming!

Time sure flies when you’re having fun! Can you believe that this month Family Dogs New Life is celebrating our 20th anniversary?! Twenty years of helping the dogs who need us most- 20,000 of them in fact!

We can’t imagine a better way to celebrate this major milestone than to share the most exciting news with you all.

After two decades of working towards our ultimate dream for Family Dogs New Life; a place where dogs can stretch their legs, run full speed, roll in the mud and…just be dogs. We couldn’t be happier to announce that we will soon be moving the pups to a new property full of fields to run in, creeks to splash in and ponds to play in; over 100 acres of them! A true wonderland for dogs. A place where they can feel safe, at peace and enriched while they wait for their forever families. Best of all we’re joining our BFF The Asher House to create New Life Asher House rescue and sanctuary. The beautiful next chapter for @fdnewlife and all of the deserving dogs who’ll come our way.

We can’t wait for you to follow our journey while we keep on keepin’ on…just

bigger, better and more beautiful scenery.

Here’s to the next 20 years!

Thank you for your support, we truly could not do it without you and if you’d like to help us celebrate make a donation towards our current fencing project at the new property.

Give us a follow at the New Life Asher House instagram page @newlifeasherhouse

We’ll have so many details to share with you as we continue building out the new rescue & sanctuary and making this exciting transition.

Destination New Life!

We can't tell you how many times that we have been unable to help a dog in need because we have been unable to find them transport to our facility; purchasing a transport van will allow us the opportunity to help countless dogs who might otherwise have no chance at a New Life.

We are looking to purchase a reliable, full size cargo van of the Sprinter/ Promaster/Transit variety. This new cargo van will not only allow us to rescue and provide safe transport to our facility for countless dogs in need ( we anticipate this transport van will make it possible for us to rescue an additional 25 dogs per month!) but also utilized for taking our dogs to veterinary appointments and picking up donations & supplies.

Please make a donation to help us reach our goal.... your donation = more lives saved.

Tips for Renting an Apartment with Your Dog

Tips for Renting an Apartment with Your Dog

Finding the perfect apartment to rent can be a challenge and finding and apartment that works for both you and your pet can be overwhelming. To make it a bit easier, we’ve complied a list of what to look for in a new apartment, what types of questions to ask while searching, and a list of some of the most dog friendly apartments for rent in Portland!

What Amenities to Look for When Searching for a Dog Friendly Apartment

Your dog needs outdoor space for regular exercise and sometimes long walks are difficult to fit in the schedule. Look for apartment communities that are within a mile of dog park. When romping around at the dog park and socializing is just part of your daily walk, you are more likely to tire out your pup then just a few loops around the block. Many new apartment building have pet wash stations, so after you visit to the local dog park, you can clean up your pup before going home.

The Douglas apartments on the Portland waterfront have a fully fenced dog park just for residents and it’s a great place to play fetch if you are worried about crowds at public dog parks.

What to Ask the Leasing Consultant When Touring Potential Rentals

Pet policies can be different everywhere, so it’s important to ask about the property’s pet policy when considering a potential apartment for you and your dog. Here’s a list of questions to ask before you take the time to tour:

Do you accept pets? This is a no brainer, and luckily in the Portland metro most apartments happily accept pets.

How many pets can I have in my apartment? Usually the answer is 2 pets per home including dogs and cats, but it’s still important to ask if you have more than one pet.

Do you have any weight restriction for dogs? This is a common restriction, and the weight can very from property to property, so make sure to ask about this.

Do you have any age restrictions? Some management companies don’t allow pups under 6 months so if you have a puppy, make sure to ask this question.

Do you have any breed restrictions? This is an important question, and it can be difficult to find an apartment that doesn’t have breed restrictions. Here is a common list, but make sure you ask because it can vary from apartment to apartment.

·         Pit bulls (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, and American Bulldog)

·         German Shepherds

·         Akitas

·         Rottweilers

·         Boxers

·         Doberman Pinschers

·         Mastiff Breed

·         Malamutes

·         Cane Corso

·         Husky

·         Chow Chow

·         Any Wolf Hybrid

·         Great Danes

Finally, it’s important to ask Do you have a pet deposit and pet rent? Many apartments have additional fees for pet owners, and you’ll want to factor that into your total budget.

Portland Apartments for Rent with no Breed or Weight Restrictions

Your dog is part of your family, so it is important that you find an apartment that accepts both you and your best friend. Here are a few apartments in Portland that will happily accept your dog no matter their breed or weight. Bonus: None of these require an additional pet deposit either!

East of Eleven Apartments in SE Portland - .1 miles from Washington High School Dog Park

The Celine Apartments in NW Portland - .2 miles from Wallace Dog Park

The Hawthorne PDX – 1.3 miles from Mt Tabor Dog Park

Meetinghouse Apartments in SE Portland – 1.5 miles from Sellwood Riverfront Dog Park with dog beach!

Are you considering adopting a pet? If you rent from any Templeton apartment community, Templeton will reimburse your adoption fee up to $150 if you adopt from a shelter or rescue organization.

Support these special pups!

You are looking at the faces of 4 very special dogs, and they could use your help. These are the longest term residents here at Family Dogs New Life. There is no time limit for the dogs of FDNLS, they are welcome to stay here for as long as it takes to find the perfect forever home. That means a safe haven for dogs like Daisy, who has been with is for 3 1/2 years. Oso, who has been in our care for 3 years. Poppy recently had her 2 year anniversary here at FDNLS and Jojo has been in our care for over 2 years. We love these dogs like our own, and enjoy providing them with the best life possible until their forever families come along but as you doggy parents know, it costs to provide good care for an extended period time. So we are asking for your help. Please consider making a donation to sponsor Daisy, Oso, Poppy and Jojo. Help make it possible for us to continue providing a happy life for dogs who have no other options.

Thank you in advance from Daisy, Oso, Poppy, Jojo and all of us at FDNLS!
