Adoption Hours & Policies
We do not do not do meet & greets by appointment, so just come in anytime during our regular hours to meet and learn more about our adoptable dogs.
We do require that you bring All human members and any other dogs in the home when coming to meet our dogs. It is important to ensure that all members of your household and your potential new companion all interact well together, an adoption cannot be completed without all household members meeting the potential pooch.
Please be aware that we operate on a small staff and weekends can get very busy for us, often times there is a very long wait ( 2 hours + ) to meet dogs on Saturdays; we highly recommend that you arrive early as a sign in sheet starts before we even open at 11:00am on Saturday mornings; The sign in sheet is hung out front on Saturday mornings around 9:00am, however people do arrive earlier than 9 to have the opportunity to be first to sign in to meet/adopt. Once signed in on the sign in sheet you may leave and return when we open at 11:00am.
Meet & greets with our adoptable dogs and adoption interviews are done on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
We do not have an online application. All adoption paperwork and adoption applications are done in shelter, at the time of meeting/adoption.
We can not place ‘holds’ on available dogs or allow you to apply to adopt online.
We do adopt to families outside of the Portland area, however we do not ship or transport dogs. All potential adopters must come to the shelter to meet & apply to adopt. In some cases with the adoption of a young puppy, you may be required to bring the adopted pup back to the Portland metro area for per-scheduled veterinary services, in these cases you must live within a reasonable driving distance of the Portland area in order to have your adopted puppy at their scheduled veterinary appointment at 8:00am .
We may require landlord contact to get adoption approval if you are a renter and must be able to make contact with your landlord at the time your application is submitted.
We are open the following days and hours:
Saturday: 11am to 6pm
Sunday: 12pm to 6pm
Monday: 12pm to 7pm
Tuesday: 12pm to 7pm
Wednesday: 12pm to 7pm
Last adoption is done 30 minutes before closing, therefore we stop introductions 30 minutes before closing time.
Please be aware that we do not place puppies/litter-mates in pairs, meaning you can not adopt two puppies at once. Read more about littermate syndrome to find out why.
Our adoption fees vary; each dog’s fee is listed at the end of their bio.
All of our adoptions include the following:
Free veterinary exam certificate accepted by 20 local veterinary clinics.
1 month pet health insurance through 24 PetWatch Pet Insurance
Microchip ID & Registration
Leash and Collar
We support our adopters and their adoptee for the life of the pet and are always here to help in whatever way we can.
All dogs rescued by FDNLS are kept in our care for at least one week before becoming available for adoption, so that we may monitor their behavior and health. All newly available dogs are posted on our Adoptable Dogs page every Thursday evening
