Adoptable Foster Dogs

The dogs listed here are available for adoption through Family Dogs New Life, however they are not currently at the shelter- they are staying in foster homes.
During the transition from ‘rescue’ to forever home, dogs require love and patience. A foster family provides a nurturing environment that not only helps the rescue dog better adjust to this transition but also allows us to to learn more about each dogs personality traits, which is essential in finding the dog and adoptive family the Right Fit.
If you are interested in meeting one of these adoptable foster dogs please email: adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org.

Gimli

Chihuahua
8 1/2 years old
Male
9 pounds

“I’m wasted on cross – country! We dwarves are natural sprinters, very dangerous over short distances!” – Gimli, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Similar to my dwarf namesake, I am very stout and short with cute little stubby legs. So I don’t take up much space and I’m a mature fella, around 8 or 9 years old so I don’t require a ton of exercise.  The thing I love most in the world is to cuddle up on my human’s lap and get lots of loving.  I am very affectionate and I get very attached to whatever person is taking care of me.  As I’ve been warming up in my new foster home I’ve become increasingly playful with my foster mom and the other dogs.  I am still getting used to going for walks and being at the dog park.  I get pretty scared if a strange dog comes up to smell me outside of my home but I never show my teeth, growl or ever try to bite – mostly I just try to run away from them.  My foster mom has had to keep me on leash even in off leash areas if they are not fenced because I do tend to try to run if I’m scared.  I have been making a lot of progress though and it’s only been a couple of weeks!  I’m great with other dogs but my foster mom has not seen me interact with cats yet.  So far I have already learned how to use a dog door and I appear to be completely potty trained after only minimal training. I have so much love to give so if you are looking for a small dog to be your snuggle buddy I am the perfect match for you!

Tallie

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
3 years old
Female
35 pounds

Hi friends! My name is Tallie and whoever said good things come in small packages must have been thinking of me! As you can see, I’m a petite princess, but you know what’s not small? My heart! I’m a very sweet girl and a pretty easy houseguest. I walk well on leash and I’m getting better and better each day. I love to cuddle when I’m not playing with my dog friends and I think I’d do best in a home with another dog. I love all people and am very sociable with other dogs. However, new situations make  me a little nervous. Being in a foster home has been so wonderful for me, I’ve been getting all the TLC I needed after a special surgery and I’ve also gained a lot of confidence. Sometimes I like to check with my foster brothers and sister to make sure new thing aren’t scary, but once I get the approval, I’m ready to go! I do find cats very fun to chase (I mean, why else would they run?) so I should probably go to an experienced home or a home that is cat-free. I’m pretty good with kids and I take treats nicely from them as well. Are you looking for a petite pitty to play with? Maybe I’m your girl!

Cheyenne

Pit Bull Terrier
7 years old
Female
60 pounds

My name is Cheyenne and I love everybody. I especially like interactive activities with humans such as walking and hiking, or even just frolicking in the yard. I get lots of praise from my foster Mom because I like to run right beside her when she runs (well it’s more like a trot really but I try not to make her feel like she’s slow). I like to show her that I appreciate her taking me out every day so I am very mindful and I try not to pull on the leash but sometimes I get excited seeing other dogs, I just want to introduce myself to them, but I am learning that I can’t meet everyone that I see.
I’m also very affectionate and will cuddle and kiss you as much as you want, truly my snuggling skills are top notch, something to behold and I am something to be held… I will snuggle with anyone/anywhere too, I am not biased and I don’t mind having a crowd of people of all ages doting on me either.  I am wiggly and waggily about everything I get to do with my people. I am house and crate-trained, and I don’t destroy stuff.  I also really like hanging out with other dogs and cats are cool too.
I do ok when I am home alone, but I am happiest when I have people around and would prefer to live in a situation where I have access to people. I might cry and bark a bit right after you leave, but I’ll soon settle down and wait patiently for your return.  My past may not have been that great, but my future looks very bright! If you would like to be my forever family I promise to shower you with kisses and cuddles every day!

Jovial

Pit Bull Terrier
2 years old
Male
45 pounds

Hello, My name is Jovial, but you can call me Jovi! I love walks, peanut butter, cuddling on the couch, and fellow canines! I’m also house-trained, crate-trained and have super short hair so I don’t shed. At night I get a little cold, so I like to sleep with a blanket…it’s pretty adorable. I’m the most mild, sweet-natured pittie around, and give lots of kisses. I’m great with kids, and promise to eat any food they might drop on the floor! I also don’t hump furniture, humans, or other dogs. :)  I would very much like to go home with another dog as I love having a playmate and am very gentle. I find cats interesting so I’m not sure there. Probably just have to meet a few. A lot of people have commented on my large head, and say it’s too big for my body, but they’re just jealous. If you’d like a young, happy-go-lucky buddy – I’m your guy! I’m excited to meet you too!

Cricket

Australian Cattle Dog + Beagle Mix
3 years old
Female
33 pounds

Hi Folks, my name is Cricket and I think it’s because I’m so light on my feet.  Not to brag, but I’m something of an athlete.  When I get to the park I love to run big circles and get all the dogs to follow me.  When it gets a bit crowded I just dart and weave and leave everyone else in the dust.  My foster mom tells me I am the best and smartest girl ever.  She may be a bit biased, but it’s true that I am perfectly house trained and not a bit destructive.  I am quiet too, with no hound baying and just a bark or two when someone comes to the door.  I have a few dark secrets in my past though, and sometimes I get overwhelmed by too much attention from either people or dogs, so a home without children, or with older, respectful children would be best.  I am great with all my new dog friends at the park, but too many dogs in my face at once can be a bit unnerving, so if we go to the park, it’s best if you watch me closely and keep me away from the big dog piles. I am doing well with the kitty in my foster home, but sometimes when he gets too close to my treats I do a little growl just to let him know what’s what.  I am great at tricks, and love to sit pretty, offer my paw, and give high tens.  If you had some time to teach me even more tricks, that would be great, since I love to learn.  I also love to take lots of long walks.  I am even great off leash, staying nearby and coming quickly to my name, even if I am playing with friends.  I am looking for someone who can take me on lots of active adventures, and give me a reassuring routine I can count on as my first three years as a bit of a vagabond were a little bit trying at times.  I am a sweet girl, and am ready to be your one true dog and show you all my many talents.

Juliet

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
1 1/2 years old
Female
44 pounds

Forever home, forever home, where art thou my forever home?  My name may be Juliet but I’m through looking for Romeo, now all I want is a place to call home!! If you’re looking for a sidekick to accompany you on all of your adventures, then you’ve come to the right place!  I am an absolute cuddle bug and once I get used to you I will never want to leave your side!  And I don’t mind sharing your love with other dogs either! But no cats for me.  I need a home where I can get lots of attention, and I think living with some respectful kids six and up would be swell.  I am still learning some basic manners like not to jump up on people and not to pull on the leash when I want to meet other dogs, but with some patience and dedication I am sure to pick it up quick!  So if you’re looking for a pooch that’s got tons of love to give, then I might just be the right girl for you!

Bo

Pit Bull Terrier
3 years old
Male
55 pounds

Hi, my name is Bo or Bo-licousness if you want to be honest.  Let’s just face it that I’m awesome.  I’m three years old and 55 lbs of long and lean deliciousness.  I love to go for car rides and walks.  My foster mom says I pull like a mother but we’re working on that with this front-clip harness thing.  Playing with dogs is totally rad whether they’re big or small.  Kids – I love ’em!  I got to meet a 6 month old baby and let me tell you, I was completely smitten.  I’m crate trained and coming along with my potty training.  I think cats are a little too interesting so a cat-free house would be best.
So, if you want some of this Bo-liciousness, please contact adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org
