Adoptable Foster Dogs

The dogs listed here are available for adoption through Family Dogs New Life, however they are not currently at the shelter- they are staying in foster homes.
During the transition from ‘rescue’ to forever home, dogs require love and patience. A foster family provides a nurturing environment that not only helps the rescue dog better adjust to this transition but also allows us to to learn more about each dogs personality traits, which is essential in finding the dog and adoptive family the Right Fit.
If you are interested in meeting one of these adoptable foster dogs please email: adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org.

Hero

Pit Bull Terrier + Boxer Mix
5 years old
Male
66 pounds

I am a noble dog with a shiny coat and soulful eyes.
I am family a man. Well, a family dog anyway. I love my people and am happiest when everyone is together- whether we are hanging out watching a movie or going on a hike. I am affectionate and like to show my love with a gentle body lean, a nuzzle, and if you happen to be lying on the floor I would love to lick your face and lie on your chest. Is that cool? I know basic commands and really want to please you. Treats are great, but I’d just as soon have a belly rub, back scratch or praise. I am curious and can be a little clumsy but am told that is sort of endearing. I love walks and am very polite on a leash.  I am also developing a new found love of playing fetch.
I am also a sensitive dog and a bit of an introvert. Listen, I love you, my people, but I don’t always love hanging out with your friends. I love when we go on adventures in nature and strolls in the neighborhood, but I find mingling with the crowds at Home Depot and the Farmers Market to be a bit much. Cool? Cool. Don’t get me wrong, with good clear guidance and direction I can meet new people and be polite. But maybe when you have a big dinner party I can just hang out in my own space? I also really don’t like when you leave. I know you have to do it sometimes, but I miss you a lot. I am working on that and working on my abilities to stay calm and relaxed when I am alone but it is still hard sometimes. Just because I love you so much and like I said, I’m sensitive. Hey, we all have our issues, right?
In sum, I like hikes in the woods, drinking out of rivers, snow, snuggling up in a pile of blankets, belly rubs, romping around, and my family (including kids over 12). I don’t love dog parks, dog day care, cats, crowds or when you leave.
I am a loyal, handsome, sweet dog with personality and so much love to give in search of a family who will provide love and belly rubs in return.

Jack has a pending adoption

Pit Bull Terrier
3 years old
Male
58 pounds

Hi. Meet your new best friend, Jack Black! Ok, Jack Black and White. When I came to the Family Dog’s foster program I was unsure of my new surroundings. However my foster family and their dog have helped me learn to trust, relax and feel safe. And they have been working on teaching me basic commands, which is fun as it involves treats and praise! I can still be a bit shy, but once I feel comfortable I will follow you everywhere! I will walk you to the door when you leave and will be patient, but excited for your return!
I am house-trained and don’t mind staying in the crate. When I came to Portland I was with another dog. I have come to love and rely on my foster dog sister and would do best in a home with another dog. Sometimes on walks I can become reactive to other animals, but my foster family is working with me to feel more secure on leash. I very much enjoy my daily walks and my new toy collection!
My foster family and the shelter do not know what I have been through, but they suspect it may not have always involved the best treatment. They have been committed to me and see that my potential abounds! I would be most successful in a home with a family who understands that I am a sensitive and gentle soul, and with patience and love I will be your new best friend!

Watson

Pit Bull Terrier
2 1/2 years old
Male
58 pounds

Hi there! My name is Watson and I’m a sweet and friendly 2.5 year old in search of my Sherlock and forever family. My favorite thing is going on walks which I love just walking politely next to you. My next favorite thing is to play fetch with you in a fenced back yard too! I love using my detective skills to ‘go find my ball’ when you ask me where it is. I am very happy to have my crate open all the time so I have a place to lounge and call my own but I can’t think of a better snuggle time than enjoying your favorite tv show on the couch with you. Did I mention I love car rides and cannot have enough toys? And playing dress up? Sure! Children that would respect me (and not pull my ears) would have my love in a heartbeat. I am eager to please my human and have already learned how to sit, lay down and wait politely to eat my dinner. My favorite treats are bully sticks but I will use more of my detective skills to clean all the crumbs off of your floor too! I can take some time to warm up to other easy going dogs but with the right introductions and your patience, we’ll be cuddling in no time.
