Adoptable Foster Dogs

The dogs listed here are available for adoption through Family Dogs New Life, however they are not currently at the shelter- they are staying in foster homes.
During the transition from ‘rescue’ to forever home, dogs require love and patience. A foster family provides a nurturing environment that not only helps the rescue dog better adjust to this transition but also allows us to to learn more about each dogs personality traits, which is essential in finding the dog and adoptive family the Right Fit.
If you are interested in meeting one of these adoptable foster dogs please email: adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org.

Bo

Pit Bull Terrier
3 years old
Male
55 pounds

Letter to my new family,

Glad to meet you, want to meet you, I’m Bo!

If I could, I’d show my enthusiasm by running up and jumping on you, all the while kissing and

talking about my love for you. I know, that’s kind of rude, but I can’t change all at once. Hey, I’m

an enthusiastic guy!

I can see myself part of an active family. We would walk, run and hike together, then come

home to a meal and some serious cuddling on the couch. I’m a great date!

I’m a party guy, I love to play with other dogs. I’m lucky, right now I have three cool foster

brothers each a different breed. I play fair and accommodate all styles of play but my favorite

brother is a Pit like me. I can be myself with him, no censorship, just crazy wrestling, uninhibited

fun, then we cuddle after!

I gotta confess though, I can be a little insecure at first, especially on the leash. I act tough at

first because I don’t want to be taken advantage of for my tender loving heart. I can’t keep it up

for long though, cause I just want to be the best friend another dog can have.

I’m also learning walks do not mean hunts. Gosh, it’s hard to resist a rustling in the bushes or a

cat running out of nowhere. I forget I’m strong, it’s a bad habit I gotta break. It’s my enthusiasm

again, I hunt hard, I play hard, and I LOVE hard.

I love you already, love, Bo

Cheyenne

Pit Bull Terrier
7 years old
Female
60 pounds

My name is Cheyenne and I love everybody. I especially like interactive activities with humans such as walking and hiking, or even just frolicking in the yard. I get lots of praise from my foster Mom because I like to run right beside her when she runs (well it’s more like a trot really but I try not to make her feel like she’s slow). I like to show her that I appreciate her taking me out every day so I am very mindful and I try not to pull on the leash but sometimes I get excited seeing other dogs, I just want to introduce myself to them, but I am learning that I can’t meet everyone that I see.
I’m also very affectionate and will cuddle and kiss you as much as you want, truly my snuggling skills are top notch, something to behold and I am something to be held… I will snuggle with anyone/anywhere too, I am not biased and I don’t mind having a crowd of people of all ages doting on me either.  I am wiggly and waggily about everything I get to do with my people. I am house and crate-trained, and I don’t destroy stuff.  I also really like hanging out with other dogs and but no kitty cats for this gal.
I do ok when I am home alone, but I am happiest when I have people around and would prefer to live in a situation where I have access to people. I might cry and bark a bit right after you leave, but I’ll soon settle down and wait patiently for your return.  My past may not have been that great, but my future looks very bright! If you would like to be my forever family I promise to shower you with kisses and cuddles every day!

Daisy

Pit Bull Terrier
3 years old
Female
60 pounds

Hi my name’s Daisy and first things first; I LOVE People! I’m just a mellow California girl who recently relocated to Portland and I am looking for people to love. Like my home state, I am sunny, sweet and chill, but can sometimes quickly switch to an intensely soulful serious side. I like daily walks, car rides, chasing cats and squirrels, playdates with my buddy Otis, a pitbull a little bit smaller than me, and long naps. I also really REALLY love nothing better than cuddling on the sofa with my foster mom to watch a movie, or being anyplace close to her or any other people. On walks I tell EVERYBODY hello! Sometimes I get so excited I pull a little on my leash. Stuffed toys are great fun to fling around and de-stuff, and sometimes I get so happy I just have to roll on my back, wiggle-waggle around and kick up my heels – that’s just the kind of goofy free spirit I am! Hate peanut butter, but love cheese wiz.

I am good with kids, I can be very gentle, but sometimes I forget my size so 8 and older would be best. When I am left home alone it makes me nervous and scared, but when I am left in my crate I do just fine waiting for everyone to get home, so a home with someone with another dog or someone who is home a lot would be ideal. I like other pitbulls and dogs close to my own size, but little dogs and cats are not a good fit for me. Oh! And my old life was rough, so sometimes I look for food on the counters (sorry!) but I am learning not to do that since I get plenty of food now. I really really want a family to love, if you take me home I will lay at your feet and gaze at you with love from my deep soulful eyes, give you some kisses, follow you around and love you forever!

Hero

Pit Bull Terrier + Boxer Mix
5 years old
Male
55 pounds

Hi, I am Hero- noble, handsome, and completely charming. I have a stoic face, soulful eyes and wagging tail. Like any hero, I am a real lover- infamous for my kiss attacks and cuddling. I also like tug-of-war, chasing and being chased around the yard, and of course, walks. And about walks, I’m great on a leash! And fear not, it is a Hero’s duty to alert you of and protect you from squirrels as we journey along! But I also know how to relax. If you’re busy or out for the afternoon, I will appreciate a long, relaxing nap. Worried about the barking? Don’t be. I save my barks for when I think it really matters- the rest of the time I communicate with nuzzles, body leans, and tail wags. I’m happy to follow basic commands, especially if it makes you happy with me because it is in my nature to please. That is not to say I don’t love a good belly rub or a treat for being good, but I am satisfied just being in your company and knowing you’re pleased with me.
On the whole I am a very easy-going dog. I can get a little excited and overwhelmed on occasion- like when there are new people or dogs in my home. When that happens I need some help staying relaxed and calm so that I can maintain my good behavior- but if you give me plenty of clear direction I am happy to follow it and we can all get along nicely. I have already learned so much about making friends! I like children, but would be more comfortable if they were older, say eight or so. I also do really well with most other dogs! But no cats- I like them, chasing them anyway, but it is not a mutual affection. I would do best in an a home with patient and understanding parents who will help give me that extra structure and safety in potentially stressful situations.  And in a home where there are lots of belly rubs.
I am looking for a forever home with a family who will appreciate all the loyalty and unconditional love that this Hero has to offer. Could that be you? Let’s meet and find out!

Nu

Pit Bull Terrier
7 years old
Female
57 pounds

Hey. You over there. I have a secret. Come close. Closer. Even Closer. Okay, here it goes: I have one of the best pittie smiles you will EVER see and I love to show it off – especially when I’m with my person. Oh yeah, my name is Nu and it’s very nice to meet you (Hey, that rhymed. Oh goodness, I’m smiling again).  I love, love, love being around my people. I think it’s because I had to spend the night at a few different places as I was growing up, sometimes by myself. I don’t really like to think about those days because it got pretty rough, so rough that I actually lost my smile a time or two (don’t you worry, it found its way back!). I do get anxious going to different places, so you’ll need to give me some time and hold my paw through new experiences. Even with this smile, I never really know how meet dogs (and sometimes cats, or squirrels…..) and have a tough time meeting them.
I love, love, love being around my people. Wait, I already said that. Gosh, that made me smile. I really do love being around my people, but have found sometimes it’s hard to share. I really like kid people, too. And with some work, I’m positive I could fit in with some new pet brothers and sisters…but then again, being an only child does sound nice. I know some tricks, too! I can sit and stay and will come as soon as I’m called (with a smile of course). I don’t get into any trouble when I’m left home by myself, and even though it’s not very polite to talk about, but I’m also potty trained. Besides my people, I love going for rides in the car, and playing fetch and love, love, love treats.Oh my, I just thought about sitting with you watching TV and it absolutely made me smile. I’m thinking we should give that a try!

Tallie

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
3 years old
Female
35 pounds

Hi friends! My name is Tallie and whoever said good things come in small packages must have been thinking of me! As you can see, I’m a petite princess, but you know what’s not small? My heart! I’m a very sweet girl and a pretty easy houseguest. I walk well on leash and I’m getting better and better each day. I love to cuddle when I’m not playing with my dog friends and I think I’d do best in a home with another dog. I love all people and am very sociable with other dogs. However, new situations make  me a little nervous. Being in a foster home has been so wonderful for me, I’ve been getting all the TLC I needed after a special surgery and I’ve also gained a lot of confidence. Sometimes I like to check with my foster brothers and sister to make sure new thing aren’t scary, but once I get the approval, I’m ready to go! I do find cats very fun to chase (I mean, why else would they run?) so I should probably go to an experienced home or a home that is cat-free. I’m pretty good with kids and I take treats nicely from them as well. Are you looking for a petite pitty to play with? Maybe I’m your girl!

Waffle

Labrador Retriever + Pit Bull Terrier Mix
2 years old
Female
46 pounds

My name is Waffle – a very sweet, delicious and fluffy treat, yep, that’s me. I’m a very happy, goofy and energetic girl, who is eager to learn and please. I have a lot of energy, and will thrive in an active home that understands that I need structure and consistency. I love belly rubs, treats and long walks. I do well with my foster brother, though I can be bossy and need to learn how to meet and interact with other dogs without an exuberant lunge. I’ve grown leaps and bounds in my foster home, and my confidence grows day by day. I was a stray before coming to Family Dogs, so I definitely need a person that can help me continue to learn and grow into the awesome lifetime pal that I know I can be. I can be nervous around children, and loud/sudden noises still scare me, so I will need your help in those areas to continue to mature. I do an excellent job during the day guarding the yard from squirrels, but probably won’t do well with cats. I’m very comfortable getting in my crate and chilling until you get home, and can eat my breakfast and dinner there as well. I am house broken, and I will proudly sit, shake and lay down for you. I can’t wait to meet you and touch your heart with all the puppy love I have to offer!
