Adoptable Foster Dogs

The dogs listed here are available for adoption through Family Dogs New Life, however they are not currently at the shelter- they are staying in foster homes.
During the transition from ‘rescue’ to forever home, dogs require love and patience. A foster family provides a nurturing environment that not only helps the rescue dog better adjust to this transition but also allows us to to learn more about each dogs personality traits, which is essential in finding the dog and adoptive family the Right Fit.
If you are interested in meeting one of these adoptable foster dogs please email: adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org.

Bernie

Chihuahua
10 years old
Male
8 pounds

Hello all- Bernie here!  I’m a very sweet old man looking for a forever home with a forever lap to sit on.  I love cuddling with my human friends and burrowing under the covers.  I love all other dogs big and small and am very brave greeting new friends no matter how much bigger than me they are.  I have lots of energy for my age and love wandering the dog park.  In fact my foster mom thinks that sometimes I wander a little too fast and that I’m actually kind of hard to keep up with! I have a great appetite so you will probably never have to try to coax me to eat and I love sticking my head out the window of the car! I’m housebroken too, and know how to use the doggy door! I really just want to find someone who will love me, give me lots of pets and let me sit on their lap – are you that someone?

If you are interested in meeting or learning more about Bernie please contact adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org

10 years old-8lbs. My adoption fee is $80 and includes; neuter, microchip, reduced cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & treat packet.

Bo

Pit Bull Terrier
3 years old
Male
55 pounds

Letter to my new family,

Glad to meet you, want to meet you, I’m Bo!

If I could, I’d show my enthusiasm by running up and jumping on you, all the while kissing and

talking about my love for you. I know, that’s kind of rude, but I can’t change all at once. Hey, I’m

an enthusiastic guy!

I can see myself part of an active family. We would walk, run and hike together, then come

home to a meal and some serious cuddling on the couch. I’m a great date!

I’m a party guy, I love to play with other dogs. I’m lucky, right now I have three cool foster

brothers each a different breed. I play fair and accommodate all styles of play but my favorite

brother is a Pit like me. I can be myself with him, no censorship, just crazy wrestling, uninhibited

fun, then we cuddle after!

I gotta confess though, I can be a little insecure at first, especially on the leash. I act tough at

first because I don’t want to be taken advantage of for my tender loving heart. I can’t keep it up

for long though, cause I just want to be the best friend another dog can have.

I’m also learning walks do not mean hunts. Gosh, it’s hard to resist a rustling in the bushes or a

cat running out of nowhere. I forget I’m strong, it’s a bad habit I gotta break. It’s my enthusiasm

again, I hunt hard, I play hard, and I LOVE hard.

I love you already, love, Bo
So, if you want some of this Bo-liciousness, please contact adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org

3 years old-55lbs. My adoption fee is $180 and includes; neuter, microchip, reduced cost training class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & Treat packet.

Cheyenne

Pit Bull Terrier
7 years old
Female
60 pounds

My name is Cheyenne and I love everybody. I especially like interactive activities with humans such as walking and hiking, or even just frolicking in the yard. I get lots of praise from my foster Mom because I like to run right beside her when she runs (well it’s more like a trot really but I try not to make her feel like she’s slow). I like to show her that I appreciate her taking me out every day so I am very mindful and I try not to pull on the leash but sometimes I get excited seeing other dogs, I just want to introduce myself to them, but I am learning that I can’t meet everyone that I see.
I’m also very affectionate and will cuddle and kiss you as much as you want, truly my snuggling skills are top notch, something to behold and I am something to be held… I will snuggle with anyone/anywhere too, I am not biased and I don’t mind having a crowd of people of all ages doting on me either.  I am wiggly and waggily about everything I get to do with my people. I am house and crate-trained, and I don’t destroy stuff.  I also really like hanging out with other dogs and but no kitty cats for this gal.
I do ok when I am home alone, but I am happiest when I have people around and would prefer to live in a situation where I have access to people. I might cry and bark a bit right after you leave, but I’ll soon settle down and wait patiently for your return.  My past may not have been that great, but my future looks very bright! If you would like to be my forever family I promise to shower you with kisses and cuddles every day!

Hero

Pit Bull Terrier + Boxer Mix
5 years old
Male
55 pounds

Hi, I am Hero- noble, handsome, and completely charming. I have a stoic face, soulful eyes and wagging tail. On the whole I am a very relaxed and chill dog. I can get a little excited and overwhelmed on occasion- like when there are new people or dogs in my home. When that happens I need some help staying relaxed and calm so that I can maintain my good behavior- but if you give me plenty of clear direction I am happy to follow it and with some practice we can all get along nicely. I would do best in an adult home with patient and understanding parents who will work with me to continue to build my confidence and make me feel safe. I like children, but would be more comfortable if they were older, say eight or so. My foster parents have been doing an amazing job helping me and I’m already much more relaxed!
I love to cuddle, give kiss attacks, have my belly rubbed and roll around on the floor in play with my people! I balance all my loving with energetic playing. In my spare time I like going on long walks and romping in the yard. I am well mannered, do well on a leash (as long as there are no squirrels around), know basic commands and am house and crate-trained. I do pretty well with other dogs but again, may occasionally need a little extra guidance to stay calm. Cats don’t tend to like me though because I want to chase them.  Seems like fun to me!
Do you like long walks and bouncing around the yard? Would you be patient with me and provide a little extra guidance when I meet new people? Will you shower me with praise and affection? If so, then I will reward you with all the loyalty and love of a true hero.

Nu

Pit Bull Terrier
7 years old
Female
57 pounds

Hey. You over there. I have a secret. Come close. Closer. Even Closer. Okay, here it goes: I have one of the best pittie smiles you will EVER see and I love to show it off – especially when I’m with my person. Oh yeah, my name is Nu and it’s very nice to meet you (Hey, that rhymed. Oh goodness, I’m smiling again).  I love, love, love being around my people. I think it’s because I had to spend the night at a few different places as I was growing up, sometimes by myself. I don’t really like to think about those days because it got pretty rough, so rough that I actually lost my smile a time or two (don’t you worry, it found its way back!). I do get anxious going to different places, so you’ll need to give me some time and hold my paw through new experiences. Even with this smile, I never really know how meet dogs (and sometimes cats, or squirrels…..) and have a tough time meeting them.
I love, love, love being around my people. Wait, I already said that. Gosh, that made me smile. I really do love being around my people, but have found sometimes it’s hard to share. I really like kid people, too. And with some work, I’m positive I could fit in with some new pet brothers and sisters…but then again, being an only child does sound nice. I know some tricks, too! I can sit and stay and will come as soon as I’m called (with a smile of course). I don’t get into any trouble when I’m left home by myself, and even though it’s not very polite to talk about, but I’m also potty trained. Besides my people, I love going for rides in the car, and playing fetch and love, love, love treats.Oh my, I just thought about sitting with you watching TV and it absolutely made me smile. I’m thinking we should give that a try!

Rambo

Chihuahua
7 years old
Male
7 pounds

Rambo may not quite be a name that matches my personality but it certainly matches my physique!  I am a barrel chested handsome little man with very soft fur and a gentle demeanor.  I am such a sweet, mellow buddy and my foster mom thinks I have the handsomest face. I LOVE other dogs and my ears are never as alert and my tail is never as waggy as when I see another canine friend! Big or small I never have any reservations about dogs and I am always a very good greeter.  I take a little bit longer to get used to people but if you go slow and just give me a second to say hi I will warm up to you and be sitting on your lap in no time! So a home with children 8+ will be best for me.  I love sun bathing, snuggling under the covers and sticking my head out the car window. I’m already housebroken and I would be a great dog for hanging out on the couch with but I also love exploring and once I get a little of this extra weight off I will make a great walking partner. Are you interested in being my forever family?

Sonny has a pending adoption

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
3 years old
Male
40 pounds

Straight up from Cali-for-nia! I’m a young pup with plenty of energy looking for an attentive home. I am a super friendly guy currently living with my foster sister (a large AmStaff) and a grouchy old kitty. My foster mom would say I do great with both, but I think I could go either way on siblings in my forever home. People are my main focus. I’m still a bit insecure in my new environment, so I’m super excited when my foster parents come home from work, with a jumping habit we’re working on.. But after I’m reassured all is good, I can mellow down just fine and hang out in the kitchen while they make dinner.
I have a strong will to please, I just need to get better at remembering all my commands. With a little more training I could be a dedicated running or trail hiking buddy, no problem! Maybe even agility courses! I also have great house manners; I am crate trained, potty trained, don’t really like to bark, and know to stay off the furniture- I like my dog bed just fine!
Let’s meet up and go for that hike!

Tallie

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
3 years old
Female
35 pounds

Hi friends! My name is Tallie and whoever said good things come in small packages must have been thinking of me! As you can see, I’m a petite princess, but you know what’s not small? My heart! I’m a very sweet girl and a pretty easy houseguest. I walk well on leash and I’m getting better and better each day. I love to cuddle when I’m not playing with my dog friends and I think I’d do best in a home with another dog. I love all people and am very sociable with other dogs. However, new situations make  me a little nervous. Being in a foster home has been so wonderful for me, I’ve been getting all the TLC I needed after a special surgery and I’ve also gained a lot of confidence. Sometimes I like to check with my foster brothers and sister to make sure new thing aren’t scary, but once I get the approval, I’m ready to go! I do find cats very fun to chase (I mean, why else would they run?) so I should probably go to an experienced home or a home that is cat-free. I’m pretty good with kids and I take treats nicely from them as well. Are you looking for a petite pitty to play with? Maybe I’m your girl!

Waffle

Labrador Retriever + Pit Bull Terrier Mix
2 years old
Female
46 pounds

My name is Waffle – a very sweet, delicious and fluffy treat, yep, that’s me. I’m a very happy, goofy and energetic girl, who is eager to learn and please. I have a lot of energy, and will thrive in an active home that understands that I need structure and consistency. I love belly rubs, treats and long walks. I do well with my foster brother, though I can be bossy and need to learn how to meet and interact with other dogs without an exuberant lunge. I’ve grown leaps and bounds in my foster home, and my confidence grows day by day. I was a stray before coming to Family Dogs, so I definitely need a person that can help me continue to learn and grow into the awesome lifetime pal that I know I can be. I can be nervous around children, and loud/sudden noises still scare me, so I will need your help in those areas to continue to mature. I do an excellent job during the day guarding the yard from squirrels, but probably won’t do well with cats. I’m very comfortable getting in my crate and chilling until you get home, and can eat my breakfast and dinner there as well. I am house broken, and I will proudly sit, shake and lay down for you. I can’t wait to meet you and touch your heart with all the puppy love I have to offer!
