Adoptable Foster Dogs

The dogs listed here are available for adoption through Family Dogs New Life, however they are not currently at the shelter- they are staying in foster homes.
During the transition from ‘rescue’ to forever home, dogs require love and patience. A foster family provides a nurturing environment that not only helps the rescue dog better adjust to this transition but also allows us to to learn more about each dogs personality traits, which is essential in finding the dog and adoptive family the Right Fit.
If you are interested in meeting one of these adoptable foster dogs please email: adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org.

Merlin

Pit Bull Terrier
2 years old
Male
45 pounds

Merlin is my name and magic is my game.  I will magically transform your life into one that is full of rainbows and unicorns.  Okay, I can’t do that but my foster mom says I am pretty awesome.  I am a magical cuddler and love to spoon. I’m a pocket pittie at 2 years old and 45 lbs.   I LOVE dogs of all size and playing with them is the best thing ever.  My foster mom says I have mad appropriate play skills.  People are pretty awesome in my book as well.  I met the resident cat and she’s okay, even though she’s not a dog.  I’m learning that I shouldn’t put my paws on the counter but that’s where all the good stuff is….  I can’t say my crate is a magical place but I’ll go in a let you know it’s not my favorite place but will settle down quickly.  I think car rides are magical because they take me to go see my other doggie friends.  I know sit and learning to walk on a leash.  My ideal home is where I can play with another dog, go on walks and car rides and snuggle.
So, if you want some of this magic, send an email to adoptafosterdog@familydogsnewlife.org

My adoption fee is $180 and includes; microchip, neuter, reduced cost Training Class, free veterinary exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & Treat packet.

Ted

Pit Bull Terrier Mix
13 months old
Male
45 pounds

This is Ted, with his big head, who only wants to snuggle with you on your bed.  He is 13 months old and super sweet, he is learning new things everyday.  He likes to play with other dogs but mostly just wants a person of his very own.  He doesn’t seem to know what a sturdy guy he is and so it is probably not the best fit yet to have him with a small dog.  He has really grown emotionally in his time in foster care, and very much wants to please his person.  He is very smart and will give you his full attention while training and learns new things very quickly.  He loves to play with toys and will crack you up as he rolls around on his back throwing his toy in the air with his mouth and catching it in his paws.  He is a great movie watching buddy, he will sleep with his head in your lap and do happy piggy grunts as you scratch behind his ears.

Lucy

Pit Bull Terrier
5 years old
Female
45 pounds

Hello everyone,my name is Lucy. I am a 5 year old,45 pound Pit Bull Terrier and I am looking for a home. I was picked up last year as a stray and was lucky enough to find my way up here to Family Dogs. I am a really sweet girl and love to cuddle. I also have wonderful manners,in fact,I got my Canine Good Citizen award from the American Kennel Club just a little while ago. That basically means I like people and dogs, know my basic commands and walk well on a leash (you can read more about it by clicking the link at the bottom of the page). I’m crate trained and potty trained as well. Seriously, what more could you ask for? My ideal home would be someone living in the greater Portland area who is looking for a dog to spend their free time with. I really love children and am pretty gentle around them. I do like to chase kitties,I’m a terrier after all and I prefer playing with male dogs. I am a true princess! I’m a pretty mellow girl who just wants a forever place to call home. Could I be your girl?

BREAKING NEWS!
Headlines Read: The search is over! We have found your forever friend!

Hi there, my name is Tyson and I am just the guy you have been looking for! I am the right combination of fun and love and have been looking for someone to share my life with. I am still young so I love to play, especially with my foster siblings, so I would appreciate a home that I can share with another doggy friend. I play hard so I would do best with a larger dog like myself and probably shouldn’t be around small dogs or young children just yet. I love playing with rope toys and am searching for a human companion that will play fetch with me and tug of war. And when the day is done I want nothing more than to curl up in your lap and cuddle for the night. I am crate trained, potty trained, I know how to use a doggy door, I ride very well in the car, and I enjoy my walks. I absolutely love spending time with my people and am looking for someone who will love spending time with me. Give me a bone, I’ll be happy for a few hours…Give me a home, WE will be happy forever.

Missy

Australian Cattle Dog + Border Collie + Pit Bull Terrier Mix
4 1/2 years old
Female
50 pounds

Missy is an easy dog to love. She has been doing great living in her
foster home with humans and dogs. She is great on a leash, a wonderful
jogging or hiking partner and as much as she loves activity she
equally loves her down time of naps, snuggling with humans and has the
softest cutest snore you ever heard. Some adjectives that easily fit
Missy, sweet, endearing, entertaining, intelligent, loving, curious,
affectionate and healthy. She learns fast is crate trained, house
trained and already knows, sit, down, wait, leave it and come. Her fan
base grows with everyone she interacts with… although not squirrels
and cats, she may not do well with a feline roommate as she does have prey drive. She is
energetic she would do best with children 5 and up as she occasionally
jumps up.This sweet girl has had a long rough road, although you wouldn’t know
it by looking at her or by her sweet positive temperament.

German Shepherd  Mix
3 years old
Female
65 pounds

Cleo, a dog, a female dog. Like, a ray of golden sun. You, a person, I want to call my own. And, I like to play and run! So, you want to adopt? La, I la la love you! T, reminds me of treats! Which brings us back to Cleo! Cleo, ray, you, play, la, T, Cleo! Well I don’t know if that had all the panache of The Sound of Music, but I tried. And if you think you can give me a try at love, well buddy I got some to return. I’ve got a good start on training- already crate trained and housebroken too but  I am really going to need someone to invest the time and patience in me, cuz I’ve got a few more manner to learn! I gots soooo much energy, sometimes I just don’t know what to do with myself! That is why I would be better with good sturdy kids who like to rough house, and a family where I’m the only furry member. Run, run, run! Love, love, love! That could be my mantra! So help me, help you find happiness!

Max

German Shepherd
6 years old
Male
100 pounds

Hello and nice to meet you. I am a beautiful German Shepherd…a German Shepherd to the Max and I’m in dire need of a second chance. I am very typical of my breed and will prefer my person to be by my side. I am very intelligent and try real hard to focus on the task at hand…but sometimes I get distracted…I’m thinking about getting petted, thinking about following you are around…thinking about gazing longingly into your eyes awaiting your next move while you rub my belly. Mostly I am thinking about what I can do next to make you happy. I do know my basics but I could use some more training. I have to admit I have leash-reactive issues I’m working on, but I am making improvement and even enjoy going jogging! I will do best in a home with a fully fenced yard, as I also get worried with all the strange noises outside- which means I do so prefer to be indoors, and am very well behaved inside!  I’m full of potential, but I just didn’t get a lot of attention and training as a pup. I’m learning now though! I’m an active guy and would like to live with some German Shepherd savvy people who understand that us Shepherds get anxious easily and will be patient, gentle and consistent. I’m pretty dominant with other dogs, so I would do best in a pet-free home.  However maybe with the right dog, probably a girl, I could be a relaxed boy. Well and I’m not really a good fit for a kitty. Small children make me nervous, but older, calm children would be fun! They just must be big enough to handle my size, energy and dedication to affectionWould you care to give this loving gentleman a second chance? I sure deserve it…to the Max.
