Almost 3 years ago, my wife and I came and adopted a puppy from you. On the
drive home we named him Archie.

This is me with Arch and my Archie T-shirt [I just made].

He is a wonderful, wonderful dog. Thank you so much for rescuing him.

Hopefully one day we will bring him over to see you so you can see for
yourself what a great dog he turned into.

    Thanks again for everything.

    Hi Tasha,

We wanted to thank you for the absolutely wonderful dog that we adopted from
your shelter back in July. We adopted “Trevor” a hound/lab who was about 2
years old at the time. He is now “Johnny” named after a very close family
friend. He has been a perfect fit for our family. He is definitely
comfortable in his home now, and is loved very much by all of us. He is
such a sweet, gentle, and well behaved dog. Everyone who meets Johnny
comments on how fortunate we are to have such a wonderful dog.

Thank you so much for the blessing we received in getting Johnny. We have
recommended your shelter to a few friends, hoping they can find such a
    wonderful dog, too.

    Hi everyone at FDNL!
Three weeks ago, I adopted Sadie (was Lady). She was so scared/shy and it took nearly an hour for her to come out from behind the chair, during our meeting. Thank you for being patient then, we just needed to have time. That’s been the theme- give her time and patience and she is really been coming out of her shell! She LOVES her older brother and daily walks. Frequent trips to PetsMart & Lowe’s is helping her confidence. She is the SWEETEST. We’re still growing, but she’s amazing. Folks out there just need to give special dogs the adjustment period so they know they’re home, safe and loved. They’ll love you back unconditionally. THANK YOU! Becky, Finnegan & Sadie

I live in Wenatchee, WA. I love dogs and I only adopt from shelters or rescue groups. I think your site is the most professionally done that I have ever seen. It not only has great photos, but I love the personality each dog is given with a cute, heartwarming, humorous profile. I admire what you do and want to thank you for being the organization you are and providing dogs with a second chance.

I plan on moving to the Portland area next June after I retire to live near my daughter. I have a 2 year old dog that I got from our local shelter, but she needs a friend. If I lived closer I would have already been by to adopt one of your dogs. When I get there for sure, you will see me. If you are ever in need of a dog hugger, please keep me in mind.

I really just wanted to tell you what a great job you do and what a wonderful group of people you are doing this for these animals. I have great admiration and respect for each and everyone involved in your endeavor. Give all the pups a hug for me and those family dogs two hugs. Please tell all your people that they are appreciated more than they know.

    Hi there,
Just want to praise you on your well-done positive website for the dogs. You make it so positive compared to other sites that try to help rescue dogs . And your writings about each pet is very well done and I like how you have taking the time to inform us about the abilities of each pet. My son Grant got a dog from you last year and he says, “I’ve been happy since I’ve gotten Sonny.” Sonny goes with Grant to work everyday and they are super buddies. He’s been the best behaved dog.
    Thanks again.

I just wanted to let you know how Chip is doing. He is such a sweet dog.
He is finding his way around the yard. The first week he would not go
outside unless I went with him, but now he runs right out with the other dogs.
He does do his business in the house, but he will pee outside. This will take some time. He loves to give kisses to everyone and now he is barking right along with the other dogs. He is making a very good adjustment.

We love him very much and having him has helped me with loosing my other chocolate brown Pomeranian.
    Thanks again,
    Marty, Chip’s Mom

    Hey all-
I adopted Mr. Brown back in June… I’m happy to report that he’s doing great. I changed his name to Finn (as in Huckleberry Finn and his many adventures.) I got a new job and relocated to the central california coast. Finn now enjoys the good life; running along the beach, chasing the birds, and swimming in the ocean. He is a great dog and I’m so glad I adopted him!
Thanks for such a great shelter!

I just had my two year adoption anniversary with Simon (formerly Bates) in October. He was very shy at the shelter- and at home as well, but he has truly become a poster dog for rehabilitating shy dogs. He has given me many hours of joy and companionship and has provided me with many lessons which I was able to share in an article in Spot Magazine. Simon has not only helped me, my experience with him is going to go a long way in helping other shy dogs thanks to Spot! Thank you for giving him another chance, he is a one in a million friend. Simon is my trail riding buddy and happily accompanies me with my horses and friends all over the country to ride. Simon walked outof the shelter and into doggy paradise. Thank you!!

    Hello everyone at FDNL,
I have been in several times looking for a dog and I Just wanted to say I Love what you guys do for these dogs. You provide a great shelter for dogs and allow every dog a second chance. I love the fact the people that work at the shelter are still honest about any quirks or kinks a dog may have. It shows that they really care about finding the right home for these dogs.
Can’t wait to adopt a dog from your shelter

I stumbled on your website because I watched Penelope’s Piteo and was very impressed with everything about it — Penelope’s wonderful manners, the setting, the music, the photography and the other dogs. Now, I am even more impressed. This is the best website of any dog/cat rescue in the country — I have seen most of them!

Much appreciation to Tash and the staff for your progressive approach to dog rescue, fantastic website and photos and your sincerity in the mission. Keep up the great work!

I just wanted to thank you for facilitating the adoption of Homer on
Saturday. I know you were probably a bit worried about him because of
his shyness. But he is absolutely wonderful! Once we got him away from
the hustle and bustle of the shelter on a Saturday, he really changed a
lot. All for the better! We are so happy that we chose him. He has
not only bonded with our son Jake but has completely bonded with my
husband and I also. He has such a big heart, he soaks up all the
attention we can give. He met many of our family members this weekend
and was a real star. He not only came to them when encouraged for love
and pets, he was actually seeking out additional attention from anyone
that would oblige. He likes our house and yard. He is very interested
in the neighbor dogs, he is soooo tough! LOL He slept in his new
kennel both nights, only whining for a short time after going to bed for
the night. He is eating regularly and seems really happy. He was real
frisky this morning. Now that he is settling in he wants to play. He
looks so healthy too. He does need a little work on the
housebreaking but it is really not a problem.

Just wanted to let you know because his brother Hudson will likely be
the same for his new family! Hope he gets adopted soon too.

I just wanted to say thank you for having such a great website. Whoever it is that takes the pictures of the dogs; writes up the narrative on the dogs and who does the video of the dogs it makes all the difference in the world. I did adopt a dog from your shelter over 2 years ago and he is doing great. I tend to just look at the dogs you bring in just to look. I couldn’t take on a second dog but it is nice to see they are so well taken care of and are loved.

    Hi Family Dogs New Life,

We’ve been meaning to send you a picture of our pooch for awhile now and
tell you how happy we are to have her as part of our family! Nico (formerly
Sara Lee) is the sweetest and most lovable dog we could have asked for.
When we got her she was very timid and wouldn’t go upstairs or downstairs
in our home and didn’t take her tail out from between her legs for 6 months.
We’re about two years into being together now and she has completely
transformed. She comes to the office with me and just about everywhere else
which makes her very happy! Tasha really set us up with the right dog for
us – we asked for a quiet dog that was good with strangers, cats and kids
and that is *exactly* who Nico is.

I tell everyone about your shelter and the training classes that we did
there too. We learned a lot about how to communicate with Nico and feel
that the training was invaluable to our relationship with her.

Attached is a picture of me (Crystal) and Nico at the Painted Hills from the
road trip we went on together this last summer.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I adopted an adorable little two-year old dog named Farley a few weeks ago who had a rough past and a history of biting. I wanted to let you all know that Farley is doing so very great! He’s my best pal and is so cuddly. He loves to be on a lap at all times and even cuddles with my roommate’s dog. He doesn’t chase the cats or the chickens! He burrows under the covers at night and keeps my feet warm. The vet gave him a clean bill of health and he didn’t growl once the entire time there (I’m sure the doggie treats helped). He walks really well on a leash and knows the following commands so far: sit, stay, shake, and come here. We’re working on down and roll over. He is SUPER smart! Thank you all for taking such great care of Farley. Your love truly rehabilitated this little guy and I’m so lucky to have found him! Keep up the great work!

We adopted Blue (named Indiana at his first FDNL visit), and re-named him Lu for Luciano. Italian for “light.” Our family’s had a tough 2009, and Lu was just the bolt of lightning we needed to bring us around to a new year. He’s a great pup, who’s already shown me how much he loves trail running, snowshoeing, and just goofin’ around. Soon, he’ll learn to skijor! He’s also working on his discipline and manners, and we’re considering doing the OHS Therapy Dog training this summer.

Thank you, FDNL for taking him in!!!

About six years ago my family adopted a blue healer/lab from FDNL. Her name was Darla and after a week of arguing over names we decided to call her Sparkle, a name my daughter came up with. We still have Sparkle and she is just perfect for our household. We love her and this group. We found my moms dog, Beethoven here the day after thanksgiving and he is just the cutest dog you have ever seen, even though she had to deal with a big surgery with him, he is now doing better.

Two years ago this month, we adopted “JJ” a beautiful black lab mix with two white toes. He is now Barney, and has become a part of our family. He took almost a year to really feel like he had a home, but has since become a cuddly, gentle, couch potato. He is wonderful with our kids ages 5 and 3, and was very respectful of the kitty already in residence. I think he must have suffered a few disappointments in his earlier life and was slow to trust, but we have won him over. He spends his days hiking up Neah-kah-nie Mountain, barking at the Elk herd who sometimes venture in our driveway, playing with neighbor dogs, and being hugged, kissed and loved. We are so thankful to have him in our lives and so appreciate your shelter. We are a lucky family to have a loving, sweet, gentle, 100lb lap dog in our lives. As I write this on his anniversary month, he snores beside the woodstove. Thank you so much for the work you do.

I adopted Constance (Chihuahua/Pug mix) on Saturday. She was not the most attractive dog on your website, frankly, but I told you what I was looking for in a dog and you recommended her. She got in my van and almost immediately fell asleep with one eye on me. After three days I have to tell you how amazing this sweet little creature is and what a joy it is to have her around! She goes everywhere with me, is respectful of my cat and exudes love. She is still suspicious of others, but that will just take time. She plays like a demon and then the next second is fast asleep. I am totally entertained by her! I just want to say thank you. I could not imagine doing what you do for a living, dealing with the public and managing a rescue! I’ve been looking for a dog for over a month and I was in and out in 45 minutes…with the perfect dog for me!

    Hi all,

I adopted Monk from you last August and wanted to share how he’s doing. He’s the best dog in the world! Of course, I might be biased. :D He is so loving, so smart, loves every adult he meets, and of course is cute cute cute. He does have his issues, of course–leash reactivity being the main one–but overall is such a good boy! We did a Reactive Rover class for me to get even more training ideas, but his leash reactivity is very slow to resolve. We’re going to keep plugging away–he wants to do whatever I want him to do, but his genetics take over! :) I’m hoping to get his allergies tested over the next couple of weeks and make him a happier, less itchy dog. He got to have his very first play date today (took so long because of his on-leash issues) with a couple of labs, and it made him happy. He got to show off all his herding instincts–if I can swing it so he doesn’t have to be on-leash, I think I want him to try herding some real sheep up in Washington! How happy would that make my boy?! If I could get him his very own herd of cattle, that would be ideal, but they won’t fit in my 40′x40′ backyard. He loves his chewy sticks (buffalo rawhide…still working on figuring out the food allergies) and is happy to eat any food I let him try, but never counter surfs. He’s a workin’ dog so he’s not much for play, but he does like to wrestle! I thought too many extra people would make him nervous, and set up a little dog den under the desk in my bedroom (where he hides when anything burns while cooking), but he loves it when we have parties and there are up to 18 adults in my 710 sq ft house, and he gets all their lovin’!

It’s been nine months since I found Chloe through you, and I just wanted to let you know that I couldn’t have asked for a better companion! We went through intensive training with Steve Fuller at Canine Classroom, and it was definitely worth it. He trained her much more easily than he was able to train me! She’s a sweet, darling dog, and I couldn’t be happier with her. She’s still looking for every opportunity to dominate any situation, but at least she can hold it back!

Thanks again for keeping her until she was ready to find me!

    Hi, everyone!
Bodey here. My mom, Debbie, thought you might like a little update on how I’m adjusting to my new life, now that it’s been 6 weeks. Well, I’m so happy that my tail just won’t stop wagging. I make friends everywhere I go.

I’m learning all kinds of new things, like how to sit and shake mom’s paw. That one’s easy, and sometimes it gets me a treat! I’ve figured out what “STAY” means, but it’s really hard to do when there is so much out there to sniff. I’m working on it, though, and I get lots of praise when I do it right. Oh, and I finally figured out where “potty” is supposed to happen. What a relief! That was confusing in the
beginning. Now, if only I could understand why some interesting smelling things that are fun to chew are called “toys” and others are called “shoes” – then maybe I wouldn’t have to “drop it” quite so often.
Next to kibble and rawhide bones, my favorite thing in the world is my big sister, Tala. She plays with me, and lets me step on her and chew on her paws. It’s so much fun! Of course I know she’s in charge, though. She gets her kibble before I do. I am starting to think that maybe it’s ok if there is food in the room and I can’t have it, although it’s a struggle sometimes for me to believe that there will always be enough food that I’ll get some too. Mom
gives me lots of pets and reassurance while others are eating, though, so that makes it a little better.
Tala and I went to day care together last week, and I had a great time playing with the other dogs. Tala was very protective of me, so I know she’s accepted me into the pack. Woof! Good thing too, ’cause mom is starting to let me out of the crate at night. I love being able to snuggle with everyone on the big bed.
I really appreciate you taking care of me and introducing me to my new family. I hope you all have a nice walk today.

    Bark, bark.

Last Sunday my wife and I adopted Lucy. I thought you all would like an update on
how she is. Well, she is GREAT! Lucy is one of the sweetest and smartest dogs I have
ever known. She has really come to enjoy her new life, even with the extensive
training regimen that she has been on. After only two days I am walking Lucy instead
of her walking me. She stays right by my side on our daily walks. She loves lounging
around the house as well. She even pretty much ignores the cat too. It was
surprising for us to see the cat walk right between Lucy’s legs one day. All in all
we are very happy with the addition of Lucy in to our home. Thank you all so very

    Dear Shelter Staff –

Several Saturdays ago, my husband and I came to your shelter in hopes of finding a companion dog for our Doberman, Dozer. I had 4 possibles to check out, but by the time it was our turn, two of them had already gone out the door. We decided to first look at Courage, an Australian Cattle Dog/German Shorthair Pointer mix as the person who came in and signed up right after us only had Courage down as a dog of interest.

Anyway, to make a long story short, she was adorable, she got along with our Dobie, so we paid her ransom and took her home. I just want you to know that it was the best thing we did!! She’s a wonderful dog. Loving, playful, polite, house-trained (always a plus!) and knows tricks I could never have figured out how to teach her. She plays dead!!! What a hoot.

She and Dozer play very well, although Dozer does get a little rough sometimes, but Daisy (we had to change her name – Courage just didn’t seem to fit her) dishes it back as well as she gets it. If they’re playing tag in the house – watch out! – furniture (and people) in the way get moved as they chase each other and careen off couches, walls or us. Our previous dog, Rocky, was over 17 and had no interest in playing so Dozer is in seventh heaven now as he has a playmate.

We already love her to pieces and she seems to like us in return. In fact, the day we brought her home, she hopped into the car like she had done it for years and then crawled into my lap, put her head on my shoulder and went to sleep. When she sees us her face lights up and her whole body moves as she thumps her tail in joy.

Soooo, you can chalk up another happy ending. Daisy is a wonderful addition to our family and we are so pleased that we got her before anyone else had a chance to see what a great dog she is.

    Thanks again!

    Hello,
We adopted Ozzie (now Maisey) on June 6th and we wanted to thank you for doing such a great job with finding the perfect dog for us. We absolutely adore her and are very happy to have her as a part of our family. She is very sweet and gentle and a lot of fun, and makes friends everywhere she goes with people and other dogs. She gets along nicely with the cat and doesn’t react to my mom’s crazy rescue dog when we have to babysit. She was terrified of our interior stairs for the first few weeks, which really made us wonder if something had happened to her on stairs or up stairs. It took a lot of work and patience, but she finally trusted us enough or somehow got the courage (or got tired of sleeping downstairs) and went up those stairs! Once she realized that it was ok, and nothing bad had happened to her, well, now she LOVES going up and down the stairs.

Thank you for taking the time to really listen to who we are and what we were looking for in a dog. We appreciate you wanting to get it right. She is the perfect dog for us. We love our Maisey.

it has been 4 months since we brought home a gorgeous little girl we named suki (previously known as becky) and we couldn’t be happier. she is such a wonderful addition to our family. she loves to play with our other dog and the cat…well we are still working on how to interact with the cat. she is so sweet and silly and pretty much personifies pure joy. suki is a total charmer and everyone that meets her falls in love. we are always sure to mention where we adopted her from and the great work you do! thank you!
