Nice to meet you, my name is Ana and I have had a rough couple of weeks. See, my momma recently passed away and it has been very hard on me so, I’m feeling a bit shy right now… I promise I’ll warm up quick with a little patience. I walk well on a leash, I’m housebroken, cute as could be and smart too. I am just a mature little lady looking for a quiet laid back environment. In my last home it was just little old momma and me, not a lot of people coming and going. I got lots of love and attention, a warm lap to sleep on and an occasional evening stroll…it really was the perfect life…oh how I’d love to find that again….
9 years old-7lbs. My adoption fee is $100 and includes; spay, microchip, reduced cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, toy & Treat packet, food sample.
Hey there, I’m Carmen! I’m a sweet and sensitive gal who can be a little on the shy side when I first meet new people….. I’ve been bounced from rural shelter to rural shelter until I finally made it her to the big city…. I’m sure this will be my last stop though, because a loving person like yourself will give me the forever home I need… I just know it! I know I would have found a home by now since I am such a great dog, but the rural shelters just don’t have enough people to adopt all there pooches, that’s all. Give me a little time and I’ll settle right in, you’ll see. I am great with other dogs and really wouldn’t mind sharing my home with them, just don’t expect me to share my food. I would even love to find a family with older children, kids 8+ would be just grand. I know that I would love all the gentle affection they have to offer…So how about it? Wanna meet me and see how great I am in person? I just know you’ll fall in love.
2 years old-58lbs. My adoption fee is $160 and includes; spay, microchip, reduced cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam, leash/collar, toy & Treat packet, food sample.
The name is Tubbs, not to be confused at all with Chubbs. I mean that would be down right rude, right. I mean, they wouldn’t name me Tubbs just because I am a little chubbs. Just because I have a waddle in my walk! I am comfortable with myself just they way I am, as I should be! Everyone here at the shelter tells me how beautiful I am, what a cute little man I am. So come in and see for yourself. I am a middle aged dude, and not at all interested in that puppy business like chewing things up or getting myself into trouble….nope I am through all that nonsense. I do well with other dogs so I won’t mind sharing my home and I enjoy respectful children too. I do walk nicely on leash, am already crate trained and very laid back……the perfect low key addition to your family if I say so myself!
6 years old- overweight at 43lbs. My adoption fee is $160 and includes; neuter, microchip, reduced cost Training Class, free vet exam, 1 month pet health insurance, leash/collar, food sample, toy & Treat packet.
Pit Bull Terrier Mix 1 ½ years old Female 40 pounds
Cynder, one of the 8 dogs FDNLS rescued from the largest dogfighting bust in US history, has made incredible progress since her rescue in Missouri. People who met her there described her as withdrawn and very shy. She would hide in her crate, but desperately wanted to be a part of the outside world. It is her intense curiosity and resilience that has made her the amazing dog she is today.
When she arrived at her foster home in early December, Cynder was afraid of everyday actions that most of us take for granted with our pets. Due to her past, she wouldn’t cross door thresholds, take treats from people, walk up or down stairs, or even approach people who made direct eye contact. She sat in her safe spot on the couch, watching everyone around her.
Little did we know, she was taking it all in and learning by watching how the other dogs and people behaved in a home environment. Now, as you can see in her pictures and video, Cynder is an outgoing, vibrant girl taking in all the new experiences this world has to offer. She holds wonderful eye contact, romps around the home, and delights in everyday activities that two months ago made her afraid. She rarely sits on the couch – there just isn’t enough time in the day to passively sit by!
Cynder’s foster home has never seen such resilience in a rescued dog. She opened her heart to learn from her foster dog and cat siblings, and she learned to trust humans. She has become a solid part of the family and is excited to meet new people and discover new places. Her progress is almost miraculous. As you can tell, we are very impressed with this little girl.
Cynder is potty trained and even goes to the front door to indicate a need to go to the bathroom. She walks well on-leash, although she does get nervous around loud vehicles. However, she is quickly learning that while they may sound scary, they pass as fast as they came.
She has met many other dogs and cats in different situations, and has been gregarious and outgoing in getting to know them. She is also adept at taking social cues from the other dogs, which is very important when fitting in with a pack of “siblings.”
As she has blossomed, she has shown traits similar to that of a young puppy. For example, she likes to chew, so it’s important to have a good supply of bones and toys to occupy her so she is not destructive. She has learned the art of tug-of-war and will play with the other dogs or humans as long as there is someone on the other end. One adorable playing trait she has is, when the other dogs don’t want to play, she will throw around the rope toy or bone and retrieve it
Cynder’s biggest milestone was passing her behavioral evaluation with extremely strong marks. It proved that regardless of her past, she lives life with gusto and has the resilient temperament typical of this breed. She is always ready to share her heart, and she will cuddle and melt in your arms. She would be a wonderful companion in a home with at least one other dog. If you are looking for a lifelong friend to bring smiles to your face and love to your family, Cynder is your girl! If you are interested in meeting Cynder please contact her foster mom at bunny_bgwa@yahoo.com or karin.britta@yahoo.com to set up a meeting.

Jasper is a sweet, sensitive, energetic 9 month old puppy who had a rough start in life. He came to Family Dogs New Life Shelter on Nov 16 2009 from the largest dog fighting bust in US history. Jasper was only 2 months old when he was rescued and went to the Humane Society of Missouri where he lived life in a kennel environment until November 2009 when he came here to Portland and began his new life in a foster home. Over the last few months his foster mom has taught him, and learned a lot about Jasper….
Jasper definitely has the energy of a 9 month old puppy and will need plenty of exercise. New situations do overwhelm Jasper, for only for a little bit. He will need a patient owner to let him adjust. He loves everyone he meets and thinks they should all let him sit in their laps. He’s lived with other dogs and cats. Jasper absolutely loves other dogs and would do best in a home with a confident older dog. He is a little too curious about the cats and thinks it’s fun to chase them so a cat free home would be best. Jasper is taking obedience classes right now and is doing great. Jasper is crate and potty trained but you have to keep an eye on him to make sure he goes out to go to the bathroom frequently (this isn’t Jasper’s fault, he shares his foster home with an incontinent dog and a Chihuahua who are not completely house broken and sometimes he follows their lead). Jasper loves to play with his toys/chewies and loves to play fetch. He recently went to a flyball tournament with his foster mom and everyone commented on what a sweet temperament Jasper has. Jasper walks well on a front clip harness and loves to go on walks with his foster mom and her dog. Also, Jasper has been hanging out with me and my 8 seven week old foster puppies and he’s amazing with them. He eats with them and they like to bite his tail, jowls, legs and he thinks it’s just great. He finds them absolutely fascinating! Jasper is smart, curious and full of life….now he needs to find a family of his own.
Jasper will be here at Family Dogs New Life Shelter available for meet & greets on Saturday and Sundays only, If you are interested in meeting Jasper at another time (Mon through Fri) please contact Karin at karin.britta@yahoo.com to set up at meeting.

Alright, I’ll say it… I like the Stones better than the Beatles. I know their nothing but a bunch of rich kid art school drop outs… But c’mon man, they rule! I think it’s cool that the Beatles were workin’ class chaps from Liverpool, and I like a lot of their music… But let’s face it, Paul Mcartney’s lyrics stink! Like my morning poo! So anyway, My name is Jack, but for obvious reasons they call me Jumpin’ Jack Flash. That, and the fact that I’m a Jack Russell, which means I’m a lot of dog in a little package. I’m a J.R. to the T, so if you want to get to know more about me, just go online and read about the breed. Simple as that. Brains, energy, playful, stubborn, and fun, depending on how you define fun! Basically, I’m a little more Keith Richards than Paul Mcartney, that’s all…

I even like children and other dogs but no kitties though, I just can’t help chasin those critters! So go get yourself some milk ‘cause this little Kookie needs a home!

I am a darling purebred Dachshund named Rosco. Unfortunately I have found myself in a shelter looking for a new home since my last family lost their home and couldn’t care for me any longer. I am a sweet boy who was much loved. I am good with children but need a home with kids over 10, since my exposure to real little ones is a bit unknown. I do great with other dogs and cats. I love to ride in the car and play with squeaky toys, I am even potty trained, although with any new rescue pet you may want to anticipate an accident or two…..just think of everything I have been through! I am just so perfect you won’t be able to leave here without me!
7 years old-20lbs.. My adoption fee is $160 and includes; neuter, microchip, 1 month pet health insurance, reduced cost training class, free vet exam, toy & treat packet, leash/collar, food sample.
Hey bro! I’m Scooter, and I love to party! I’m a good timing guy who likes to have fun. You know what I don’t like? Children! They try to steal the spotlight from ME and I don’t like that, ya dig? I’m a friendly guy who likes older kids like teens and up, and I really love adults! Especially men! Women are cool to, but sometimes it takes me a little longer to warm up. I’m not a shovenist or anything, I just need to get to know a few more woman before I fully trust them. I’ve made a few woman friends here at the shelter and I like them a lot. I love to play with other dogs, and tormenting the cat is super fun! I could live with a cat, but it better be a fun cat who likes to play like I do! Basically, I’m a typical little dude Chihuahua! So, if you konow a bit abut Chihuahuas and you love the breed, I’m your man!!!

They call me Big Bertha, what’s shakin’ honey? I’m an adult gal who’s been bounced around from shelter to shelter… I gave up working the all night diner’s at the truck stops some time ago… I quit smoking, quit drinkin and hit the road, hitch hiked around the country for a bit and that’s how I ended up in rescue. I’m ready to settle down now though. Clean livin’ has got the better of me, and I feel I would be better suited for the quiet life. No more truckers, truck stops and bad coffee. I’m ready to go for evening strolls (ya, I could really stand to loose a few pounds…ok I’m being modest- Several pounds!) and lay on your back porch all day! I’m calm, gentle, loving and very people oriented… Give this gal a chance at a great new life?

Hi, sure I’m shy, but heck I’m a little guy at just 8 pounds. I get scared of being handled and I will protective of my small body.I have to take care of myself; it is a big world when you are such a little guy like me.Generally men scare me more then the ladies…actually I love the ladies! I get so excited for attention, just come a runnin’ when I’m called and love to be held and carried around. I just need to trust you first, with some people this trust comes quickly…with others it takes a little longer. I do love to play with other dogs and am having a blast in my playgroup here at the shelter, I have lived with cats and do well with them too but I am looking for a family without children. I am already crate trained and am doing well with my housetraining too. So if you are patient and looking for a little lap buddy then I think I might be the boy for you….come on in and check me out!

Are youlooking for a buddy to pamper and spoil? Well I would love to be your new little buddy, I just love to be pamperd, and spoiled! Truth is, I really am quite the little rascal. I am just hoping that my cute looks will win you over- I mean they always have in the past. I always get my way! The people here at the shelter say that it is time for me to find an appropriate home to love and train me, it’s time to ignore this cute face and make me follow the rules! I have a lot of great qualities- I am crate trained, housebroken and good with other pets. I just need to find a home without children- they are just too easy for me to push around. So what do ya say, can you ignore how cute I am ?
6 years old-30lbs. My adoption fee is $200 and includes; neuter, microchip, free vet exam, 1 month pet health insurance, reduced cost training class, toy & treat pack, leash/collar, food sample.
Liberty and Justice for all! Ok, so we all know there isn’t enough Liberty and Justice for everyone, but a few people will luck out, that’s for sure…You could be one of ‘em! Adopt Liberty, or me Justice, or both of us even! We are a dynamic duo who love each other! We don’t mind being separated, I mean it would be awesome to get all the love and attention to myself but going to the same home would be totally cool too… We have good house manners, we are housebroken, and somebody has taken the time to give us a little training too. We are really great dogs! We are looking for an active family to love us and give us the forever home/s we deserve…

Handsome right? You betcha….but let’s move past my dashing good looks and talk about the real me for a minute. I’m a special little fella, looking for a special home. A home with a patient person, someone that will give me time and space to feel comfortable, a home without children, maybe even a home with other dogs or cats to keep me company? A home where I can be an inside dog, since I am housebroken and all, I’ll make a wonderful house pet. I am a great companion- I’ll follow you around the house, lay at your feet, sleep at the foot of the bed……but I just don’t care much for being petted. So what? Big Deal! I’m just not the cuddly snuggly type, that’s all. Truth is, I’ve never really learned to trust people handling me, so if you reach out for me it freaks me out…..hey I don’t know what your intentions are! But I am learning, slowly, that I can trust people and that touching doesn’t equal hurting. But it will take me time, so I sure hope that you are willing to give me time…..

Yo yo yo, I’m a handsome young stud named Preston! Just look at this grill! Is this not the best lookin face around? And check out these pecks! Did you see my six pack? Sure I spend a lot of time at the gym, I mean a guys gotta keep up his physique but don’t act like I’m just a meat head…this big ol heart of mine is just as impressive as my handsome face and toned body! I’m great with other dogs, and I LOVE people, children too! Let’s say ages 6 and up since I’m a fun young pup and I just don’t know my own strength. I would feel real bad if I accidentally knocked your toddler over, ya know? I am housebroken, I already have some training and know some basic commands, but I would like to know more… Maybe you can teach me!? I’m one very sweet young man with a very well balanced temperament… Oh, And I would look fabulous under an xmas tree!!!

Skeeter’s the name, and I am a cute fella with a colossal sized heart….I am just looking for someone to help harness all this love and energy I have to share. At just 10 months of age I have sooo much learning to do, but boy-o-boy do I have potential!! You can almost see it oozing out these big beautiful ears! I am super smart, and truly eager to please- but I am a herder by nature, a smart working dog with a lot of drive- so I need someone that can handle that. You know, someone who understands how to harness that drive and use it for positive things- cuz you leave to my own and I will surly take advantage and start acting like a wild child! Just give me some guidance, some love, some training and you will definitely have one awesome dog! I do love to play with other dogs, I am crate trained and doing really well with my housebreaking too, but I am looking for a home without small children or cats- you heard me say I was a herder right? Well then come in in and let wrangle in that heart of yours!
