Our Dogs: News
Its been a long road…..
Today we took in 8 pit bull terriers rescued from the largest dogfighting bust in US history. After 5 days of traveling from Missouri to FDNLS these kids are very happy to be ‘home.’
This is lovely little Cynder.
Don’t let the grey face fool ya, Lila is still a powerhouse of love!
Cynder soaking up some loving from Justin.
Lila climbs up and makes herself comfortable in Justin’s lap….exactly where a pitty should be!
Check out these videos to learn more about the sad history of these dogs……

All 8 of these rescued dogs will be available for adoption after a six week foster period, in which they will live in foster homes, undergo further behavioral evaluations and get some much needed lovin! While they cannot be adopted during this six week period, applications for adoption will be accepted during this time.

Check out Penelope’s profile and watch her new ‘Piteo’ – that’s a Pit Bull Video for those of you whole didn’t get it
Now all we need a is an adopter to take Penelope home!
Thank You Hayes http://hrglsvideography.blogspot.com/ for making this wonderful video.
Everyone stay tuned for more Piteos!! It’s a sad fact that Pit Bulls are far harder to find homes for than other breeds of dogs, so we have decided to do Piteos for all of our adoptable Pit Bulls- what better way to show off their big smiles and wonderful wagging tails!
Toys Toys Toys
We are dangerously low on dog toys. What shall we do without them? We would appreciate the donation of any style dog toy- plush, rubber, squeaky. If you have any ‘like new’ dog toys that your pooch has lost interest in we can use them too!

| **UPDATE – 11.04.09** The weekend is full! We’re totally booked! Thank you to everyone! If you’d like to be notified if we have any cancellations send me an email at doghouse@canisstudio.com and I’ll put you on the waiting list. The 2009 edition of this awesome event will run The last two years have been really fantastic. The support we’ve received from Portland’s dog community has been wonderful, with lots of great people and amazing dogs coming out to help the cause. Last year the day booked solid a lot more quickly than we expected, and unfortunately we had to turn quite a few folks away. This year we’re doing two full days! What’s the scoop? Where is it? How much are photo sessions? Where can I see my photos? Other stuff You’re likely to encounter other dogs as you’re coming in or leaving after your session. If you have questions or concerns regarding any special needs or behavior issues your dog might have please let me know when you make your appointment. Please feel free to shoot an email to doghouse@canisstudio.com if you have any questions. Thanks for helping to make this year an even bigger success than last year! |
Lil Miss Macie
Let’s put the spot light on Macie, she’s our featured pet this week!

I’m a little doll named Macie… It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m a total love who is feeling a bit unsure right now… This shelter business is intimidating for a sweet little girl like myself! But that’s OK, I know a savior will come and sweep me away… I’m housebroken, great with other dogs, and I love to harass the cats… I like children, but 6 years and older would be best for now since I’m feeling a bit nervous at the moment. What do ya think, do you have it in your heart to care for a little lonesome angel named Macie?
Family Dogs says Thanks to Sam the Cat
Are you an X ?
Penelope Penelope Penelope!
Penelope is our featured pet this week. This special girl could really use a home of her own……
Pretty precious playful Penelope, that’s me! I’m a gorgeous gal with big eyes, a big smile, and a big heart to match! I lived on a farm for a while with my foster mom and did grand! I love to run and play and move move move! I’m housebroken, smart as a whip, and have a good start on my training. I’m working on my manners and I respond well to calm commands. I would say a firm, yet very gentle hand will be appropriate in helping me continue my obedience training. I would love a home where I can play lots of fun games to keep my mind and body busy. I like to chase cats quite a lot, so a feline free household is a must, but I do get along well with my canine playmates. The shelter has a lot of great notes from my foster mom so you can get all sorts of helpful info and read all kinds of nice comments about me when you come in to meet Pretty Penelope!
Check It Out!
Take a look at this months issue of Spot Magazine, read a little blurb about FDNL and get all the info you need to visit us Aug 6th at Mutt Mixers!
Partial to Pit Bulls?
Are you searching for a new best friend? Fond of Pit Bull Terriers? Well we have 3 pleasant little Pitties who have been waiting patiently for a place to call their own. As many of you know, this breed receives quite a bit of negative, undeserved press which makes this breed of dog far harder to find adoptive homes for then any other breed. How about considering a Pit Bull Terrier, or Pit Bull Mix when looking for your new furry friend.
Check out our family of adoptable Pitties; Penelope, Archie, Rose and Gina!
Thank You, Thank You!
We would like to give a big huge thank you to the young people who so generously supported our shelter this week….
Girl Scouts troop # 824 raised funds for Family Dogs by selling their delicous cookies. Thank you girls!
Happy Graduation to Nick Norman, who asked for his friends and family to donate to Family Dogs in lieu of graduation gifts!

New Babies
Rarely are babies born here at Family Dogs, but when Ginger, a beautiful shepherd mix came to us we knew the second we saw her that babies were coming soon!
On November 20, early in the morning we experienced the joy of child birth.
Ginger is a wonderful momma and her babies are absolutely precious. We have really enjoyed caring for them, and watching them grow. So we thought we would share a little bit of the joy with all of you.
A few more weeks and these babies will be ready to go. It has been fun, but most of all we look forward to seeing each of them go home with their forever families. ( and Ginger looks forward to being spayed, she says this parenting is hard work and she never wants to go through it again! )
