One of our newest additions, baby Cinnamon, got to be a star for the day! She spent the morning trying out her acting skills on the set of ‘Leverage’, the hit tv drama on TNT.
Check out these adorable pics of Cinnamon and actor Christian Kane …. I myself am not too familiar with the show Leverage, but for those of you who are (like me) Buffy/Angel fans, you may know Christian Kane from his role as lawyer Lindsay on Angel….. now that in itself is pretty cool, right?
Oh my goodness! How cute are they? The min pin babies Stella and Bronte are doing so well…just look at them! Each day is one day closer to them being ready to find homes of their very own…but we’re not there just yet. The babies do need a little more time and continued treatment, which we can really use your help with. Please feel free to donate, Stella and Bronte thank you, and so do we!
August, Pharo and Jack had a blast showing off some great doggy fashions today in the fashion show at the 23rd Ave street fair!
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers Emily and Ethan for spending their Saturday afternoon helping out at the event.
Thank you Jen at the Hip Hound boutique for making Family Dogs New Life a part of this fun event!
…A real one! We are so excited for the little guy, we thought he’d live here with us forever but alas he found an angel to adopt him and give him a family of his very own.
Congrats Timmie, the Timster, T-Dog, T-Bone……we are so happy for you!
Ok, so it’s not like the stork just delivered- lil Timmie has been with us a while, maybe you saw him on our Adoptable page….. but now it’s official, he’s the newest addition to The Family Dogs . Welcome home Timmie, here’s to many happy and healthy years together.
Have you ever seen such a sad sight? These 2 12 week old Min Pin puppies where thrown out of a car , thankfully found a someone driving by. The poor babies have one of the worse cases of demodex mange we have seen, to top that off they are oh- so- thin and very under-socialized. There have begun treatment and will need continued medication and lots of TLC until they are healthy and happy enough to go up for adoption.
This is where we need your help. We are asking for donations to help with their veterinary costs, along with an experienced foster home to provide the care and TLC they desperately need. *** A wonderful foster home has been found, Stella and Bronte are now resting comfortably in their new temporary home, but we are still seeking donations for their care.
If you are interested in being their foster family please send us an email. And please, feel free to make your donation by clicking the shiny yellow button below
We are getting dangerously low on dog toys…whatever will we do! We would appreciate the donation of any style dog toy- plush, rubber, squeaky. If you have any new or ‘like new’ dog toys laying around the house that your pooch has lost interest in we can use them too!
In memory of our beloved mascot Triffi we have done up these awesome, limited edition, Triffi Tees. Available in S, M, L, and XL for just $25. Come get yours today!
Goodbye
With heavy hearts and tears in our eyes
after all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we've done all we could
if there was anything we could do; you know we would
I'm sitting right here; gently rub your ears
while I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we'll never forget
especially the ones; of the day we all met
One last hug; and one last kiss
you have no idea; how much you'll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
you tell me it's ok; you know it's your time
Close your eyes now; and go to sleep
we'll pray to the Lord; you're soul he'll keep
Go in peace now; our good friend
we'll stay right here with you; until the end
Dream of that special day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We'll run and play; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside
Your memory will live on; in each one of us
you'll always be number 1; to all of us
Have a safe journey; through the night
I promise when you awake; you'll be in God's light
So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
just for now my friend; we say goodbye.
--John Quealy
Most of you know that Triffi, our shelter mascot, has been battling lymphoma.
Today he lost that battle and we gave him one last kiss goodbye.
Please enjoy this collection of photos, a true representation of what a fun, goofy, spirited boy Triffi was.
Justin and I always had a camera ready to capture the moments that made us fall head over heels for this magnificent boy…our “Leather and Lace”.
After saying goodbye to our sweet Caroline on April 1st we found out today that Triffi our beloved ‘mascot’ has Lymphoma, an invasive form of cancer . We are so very sad to learn that there isn’t much we can do for our big fella, aside from trying to keep him happy and comfortable until he is ready to say goodbye.
Please keep our boy in your thoughts and prayers….he could use some well wishes right now. And so could we.
we said good bye to a member of our family. Caroline, our sweet Caroline, passed peacefully on today. For 8 years we have shared our lives with her and loved her like our own. She was our pet, and we her family. She never failed to make us smile and constantly reminded us why we do what we do…
Thank you for the memories…you will be truly and deeply missed.
We just added a new page to our website…located under the “About Us” tab is our brand new Piteo Programming. All Piteos, nothing but Piteos. Yep, just wagging tails and pittie smiles.
So start checking Piteo Programming for all the latest Piteos….and we’ll stop clogging up our Dog Blog with em

Preston our very handsome, and quite popular Boxer/Pit Bull Terrier mix finally got his Piteo….what a smile! No wonder this boy has such a big fan base…
And Jasper….who is becoming quite comfortable with all the attention he’s been getting lately! We had fun making this entertaining Piteo of Jasper during one of his sleepovers here at FDNLS…… we are happy to show that Jasper is a great dog, just a dog, a sweet energetic playful Puppy dog! (And I get a huge kick out of his concern for that naughty dog who peed on his bed… “like OMG can you believe he just did that? “)
Everyone needs a vacation once in a while, including our photographer. So for the next couple weeks you’re stuck with just us and our digital camera…..but hey, the dogs won’t be any less adorable, just their photos
Daphne, one of the 8 wonderful dogs rescued from the missouri dogfighting bust is ready for a home of her own! Check out her Piteos, since she is so darn cute we had to do two.
One that might make you feel just a little emotional….
And one to remind you what a Happy girl Daphne is!…..
We want to thank Pets On Broadway for their generosity, today they donated car loads (literally 3 car loads) of supplies, toys, treats, bones, food, sweaters……you name it, they donated it! Today we have some very happy pooches
I knew the moment that I saw his big, huge, beautiful smiling head looking at me through the kennel door that I had to take him. What I didn’t know then is that I would spend 5 wonderful years sharing my life with that big huge smile…
When I went to animal control that day, I had several dogs to pick up and transfer back to FDNLS- Owen was just a special boy that caught my eye. He was an extra addition to the group, but I just knew that we could find him a home.
It didn’t take long before he was at my house…I was just going to foster him, that was all. He had a little ‘hitch in his get up’, a wobble in his walk and I wanted to know what was going on before we placed him up for adoption. But I fell in love, instantly and there was no way he was leaving.
We learned through many vet check ups, x rays and an MRI that Owen had a rare condition that affected his spinal cord. Nothing painful, just some ‘misfiring’ that caused an intense lack of coordination.
But this was part of his charm, it made me smile and often times he had me doubled over laughing. It didn’t slow him down, Owen had a great sense of humor.
He loved to play fetch, enjoyed his yearly camping trips, could catch a treat in his mouth from 20 feet away and had a love obsession with Kongs (he could chew up a black deluxe Kong in a matter of minutes, it was more then just skill it was more like a science).
Over the last several months we watched our shinning boy go from goofy & clumsy to weak & frustrated, we knew this day would come. The doctors told us his condition would progress. For 5 years we knew this day would come.
Today I said goodbye, to Owen’s big huge beautiful head, to his happy smile. Today Owen went to a peaceful rest, by our side, with his face in a bucket of biscuits.
Today we took in 8 pit bull terriers rescued from the largest dogfighting bust in US history. After 5 days of traveling from Missouri to FDNLS these kids are very happy to be ‘home.’
The Dogs are arriving…
very happy to be home…
This is lovely little Cynder.
Don’t let the grey face fool ya, Lila is still a powerhouse of love!
Cynder soaking up some loving from Justin.
Lila climbs up and makes herself comfortable in Justin’s lap….exactly where a pitty should be!
All 8 of these rescued dogs will be available for adoption after a six week foster period, in which they will live in foster homes, undergo further behavioral evaluations and get some much needed lovin! While they cannot be adopted during this six week period, applications for adoption will be accepted during this time.
